# 4 of 5 CRMs now automate at the entry tier; HubSpot charges 4.5× to lift the limits

*Which tier first carries workflow automation at Freshsales, HubSpot, Pipedrive, Salesforce and Zoho, and what Zoho’s rupee tiers buy, as of September 2026.*

Workflow automation is no longer the reason to buy the expensive CRM seat. Four of the five sales CRMs Indian buyers shortlist most include workflows in their entry paid tier; what the higher tiers sell is the limit.[1] [2] [3] [4] [5] HubSpot is the plainest case: Sales Hub Starter allows “up to 50 workflows with restricted triggers and actions”, and Professional, at US$90 a seat a month on an annual commitment against US$20 for Starter, allows “up to 300 fully customizable workflows”.[2] That is 4.5 times the seat price to lift the cap.

## Who automates at the entry tier, and who does not

Freshsales Growth, at US$9 a user a month billed annually, lists “basic workflows”; sales sequences arrive at Pro, US$39.[1] Salesforce’s Starter Suite, US$25, lists “built-in sales flows and lead routing”.[4] Zoho CRM allows ten workflow rules a module, five of them active, even on its free edition for three users.[5] The exception is Pipedrive: its Lite plan, US$14, lists no automation, and “automate repetitive tasks and complex workflows” starts at Growth, US$39.[3]

Four of five vendors’ pricing pages (Freshsales, HubSpot, Salesforce, Zoho) list workflow automation in the cheapest paid tier; one (Pipedrive) starts it at the second tier. We counted a tier as automating if its own plan card or comparison table names workflows, flows or workflow rules.

## What the rupee buys: Zoho's limits, edition by edition

Zoho is the one vendor on the list that publishes both a rupee price and the automation limits behind it: Standard ₹800 a user a month, Professional ₹1,400, Enterprise ₹2,400 and Ultimate ₹2,600, billed annually, GST extra.[6] Its comparison table caps the active workflow rules in each module, and the caps rise faster than the price.[5]

The count of rules is not the whole story. Professional is where Zoho adds blueprints (three, guided sales processes) and assignment thresholds; approval processes and custom functions inside workflows wait for Enterprise. Workflow emails are capped too: 100 per user licence or 5,000 a day on Standard, whichever is lower, and 200 or 10,000 on Professional.[5] A team that runs drip campaigns from the CRM will reach the email cap before the rule cap.

Our view

Our view: price the automation by its ceilings, not its checkbox. Write down the five rules your team needs on day one and the follow-up emails a month they will send, then find the cheapest tier whose caps clear both. For most ten-person teams that is Zoho Professional or HubSpot Starter, not an enterprise tier.

## AI agents are the new upsell, and what India changes

The premium has moved to AI. HubSpot’s Agent Builder offers “simple automation” at Starter and “advanced automation and event-based triggers” at Professional; Freshworks sells its Freddy AI Agent as an add-on at US$49 for 100 sessions.[2] [1] Our [piece on CRM agents](https://www.thetechbag.com/blog/crm-system-of-record-to-system-of-action) prices that layer. In India, Zoho Professional for ten users is ₹1,68,000 a year, or ₹1,98,240 with 18% GST; the four US-dollar vendors bill in dollars and are quoted in INR through a reseller with 18% GST. Every automated email to a prospect is processing of personal data: the DPDP Rules were notified on 13 November 2025, and the consent and notice duties apply from 13 May 2027.[7] Build the consent field into the workflow now; retrofitting it across a hundred live rules is the expensive way.

How we did this

Figures as of 30 September 2026

Tier contents and prices are taken from each vendor’s own pricing or comparison page; the pages are undated, and wording is quoted as printed. Zoho’s page renders rupee prices by script, so the INR figures come from a dated press account that matches TechBag’s Zoho CRM page. The ten-seat figure is TechBag arithmetic (₹1,400 × 10 × 12, plus 18% GST). Salesforce’s table did not map every automation feature to an edition cleanly, so only the Starter Suite wording is used. Our earlier version cited five statistics from Nucleus Research, Harvard Business Review, Forrester, McKinsey and Salesforce; none traced to a dated primary page within this rewrite, and all five are dropped.
