The short version

- For a site with 10,000 sessions a month, Microsoft Clarity and Contentsquare’s free plan (the old Hotjar) charge nothing; Lucky Orange, Crazy Egg and Mouseflow charge US$72 to US$109 a month on annual billing.[1] [2] [3] [4] [5]
- The free plans are real but short: Clarity keeps recordings 30 days, and Contentsquare’s free tier replays 5% of sessions.
- Start free. Pay when you need longer history, form analytics or every session recorded, and mask form fields before you do either.

The 2023 version of this piece explained what click, scroll and mouse-movement maps show and named Hotjar, Crazy Egg, Lucky Orange and Mouseflow. The question a marketer actually brings is narrower: for a site of our size, what does it cost to see where people click and how far they scroll, and is the free option good enough? We read five vendors’ pricing pages for a site with 10,000 sessions a month.

Clarity is free with no traffic limit and keeps recordings for 30 days; each heatmap is capped at 100,000 page views.[1] Hotjar’s pricing page has redirected to Contentsquare’s since March 2026, where the free plan covers 200,000 sessions a month with one month of data, and replays capture 5% of sessions up to 10,000; Growth starts at US$49 a month.[2] Lucky Orange’s Grow plan is US$72 a month billed annually for 10,000 sessions.[3] Crazy Egg’s Plus is US$99 a month billed annually.[4] Mouseflow’s free plan stops at 500 sessions, so Advanced, at US$109 billed annually, is the first tier above 10,000.[5]

Our view

Run Clarity for a month first. A click map and a scroll map answer the 2023 piece’s two questions, which buttons people press and where they stop reading, at no cost. Pay for a tool when the free limits bite: a year of history to compare a redesign against, form analytics on a checkout, or every session of a low-traffic page recorded.

## Buying it in India

All five price in US dollars; through a reseller the invoice carries 18% GST. At an indicative ₹83 to the dollar, Mouseflow Advanced is about ₹9,050 a month before GST, TechBag arithmetic rather than a quote. The bigger question is the data. A session replay records what a visitor typed and tapped, which is personal data under the DPDP Act; the Rules notified on 13 November 2025 bring the substantive duties into force on 13 May 2027.[6] Clarity stores data in Microsoft Azure and enforces consent signals only for visitors from the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, so an Indian site must wire consent and masking itself.[1] Product teams that want replay inside their analytics should read [Mixpanel Session Replay](https://www.thetechbag.com/mixpanel/mixpanel-session-replay), which offers India data residency.[7]

How we did this

Figures as of 30 September 2026

The four tools named in 2023 plus Microsoft Clarity, the free tool the 2023 list missed. Contentsquare, Lucky Orange, Crazy Egg and Mouseflow were read from Internet Archive copies dated 21 September, 12 July, 22 August and 28 August 2026; Clarity from its FAQ. Price is the cheapest plan whose quota covers 10,000 sessions a month, at the annual rate. Nothing was installed or tested.
