# Pharma field-tablet MDM costs US$2 to US$3.99 a device; 4 of 12 host in India

A medical representative’s Android tablet can be managed for between US$2 and US$3.99 a device a month on published list prices, and four of the 12 products on TechBag’s UEM & MDM guide document an Indian tenant or Indian hosting.[1] The 2022 original asked which features a pharmaceutical company should insist on. The feature list has since converged, so the answer is shorter: decide by fleet shape, price per device and where the console keeps its data.

## A pharma company runs three fleets, and MDM is about two of them

The field force first: medical representatives’ phones and tablets, usually company-owned, usually Android, running one e-detailing or CRM app and very little else. What that fleet needs is kiosk or single-app mode, an app allowlist, remote lock and wipe, and an Android Enterprise work profile where the device is the employee’s own. Then the plant and the lab: shared tablets that log batch records, instrument readings and cleaning checklists, where the record on the device is a regulated record. The office laptops belong to the UEM conversation the rest of the company already has.

Of the 12 products on the UEM & MDM guide, 9 manage Android at depth and ship a kiosk mode, so a field or plant tablet can be locked to one app. Of those 9, five publish a price: four per device, one per user (Microsoft Intune at US$8). The other four quote or price by edition.[1]

## US$2 to US$4 a device, and two of the four are India-hosted

On the four per-device list prices, Scalefusion’s Essentials tier is the floor at US$2 a device a month;[2] Hexnode Pro is US$2.20;[3] LogMeIn Miradore Premium is US$3.30 and 42Gears SureMDM Standard US$3.99.[1] The guide flags Scalefusion, 42Gears and ManageEngine as India-built with an Indian tenant; Seqrite mSuite completes the four with documented Indian hosting.[1]

In rupees, at the guide’s ₹83 to the dollar for scale, a 500-tablet field force costs about ₹83,000 a month at US$2 a device and about ₹1,65,600 at US$3.99, so roughly ₹10 lakh to ₹20 lakh a year before 18% GST.[1] The spread is about two times for a feature set that is close to identical at the kiosk-and-wipe level; above US$2 you pay for Windows and macOS depth and analytics a field force does not need. Hosting is the other axis: 4 of the 9 kiosk-capable products document no Indian region, and for a fleet that holds doctors’ names and prescribing data that is a contract question before it is a feature question.[1]

## The rules a pharma fleet carries, dated

Three regulators reach the device. The revised **Schedule M** to the Drugs Rules, notified as G.S.R. 922(E) on 28 December 2023, rewrote Indian good manufacturing practice around a pharmaceutical quality system; small and medium manufacturers with turnover under ₹250 crore were given until 31 December 2025 to comply by G.S.R. 127(E) of 11 February 2025.[4] [5] A plant tablet that holds a batch record is inside that regime, and an exporter to the United States answers for the same record under **21 CFR Part 11**, the FDA’s electronic-records rule in force since 1997.[6] The **DPDP Act, 2023** covers the field force: a doctors list on a representative’s tablet is personal data, the Rules were notified on 13 November 2025 with the security-safeguard and breach-notice duties starting 13 May 2027, and the Act’s schedule sets penalties up to ₹250 crore for failing reasonable security safeguards.[7] [8] And the **CERT-In Directions** of 28 April 2022 already require a reportable incident to reach CERT-In within six hours and 180 days of logs kept in India; a lost tablet without remote wipe is exactly such an incident.[9]

Our view

Our view: do not buy a pharma MDM on its feature grid, because in 2026 the grid is the same. Buy the per-device price your fleet shape earns, insist on the data-region clause in writing, and keep the plant tablets on a product whose audit log you can hand to a Schedule M inspector without a support ticket.

How we did this

Figures as of 30 September 2026

Counts, Android depth (2 or 3 on the guide’s scale), kiosk support, hosting flags and prices come from the 12 product records on the TechBag UEM & MDM guide, priced off vendor pages in August 2026; the Scalefusion and Hexnode USD pages were re-read. “India-hosted” means a documented Indian tenant or region; India headquarters alone does not count. Per-user products are excluded from the chart. INR uses the guide’s ₹83 to the dollar, for scale only. The revised Schedule M text was not read; the gazette notifications and a legal summary of the extension were.
