The annual VAPT found four hundred issues. Nobody knows which ten to fix first — Fortra VM scans your internal networks through an RNA appliance and your public IPs from Fortra’s own scanners, then ranks every finding by Threat Rank and Active Risk — run it yourself, or let a Fortra analyst run it on VM Pro.

This page covers Fortra Vulnerability Management — with its WAS, Active Threat Sweep, agent and container add-ons, VM Pro and PCI-Pro folded in. The rest:
Most product pages skip this. We start here — so you buy a capability, not a buzzword.
A scanner finds missing patches and weak settings; risk-based VM then ranks them by how likely they are to be exploited.
What consolidation actually replaces, dimension by dimension.
| Dimension | An annual VAPT and a CVSS spreadsheet | Fortra Vulnerability Management (Fortra VM) |
|---|---|---|
| Scan cadence | One VAPT a year, then silence | Monthly or unlimited scans, set by subscription |
| Prioritisation | Sorted by CVSS alone | Threat Rank and Active Risk, weighted by asset value |
| Who runs it | A spare hour from the sysadmin | Your own team, or a Fortra analyst on VM Pro |
| Board reporting | A 300-page PDF nobody reads | A Security GPA grade with a peer comparison |
| Perimeter | Unknown until the next pentest | Public IPs scanned from Fortra’s own scanners |
| What it is NOT | — | A patching tool, or a SaaS hosted in India |
The cheapest test is Fortra’s free trial on one segment: deploy one RNA appliance, run an authenticated scan and compare the list with your last VAPT.
Vendors love diagrams; buyers need to know what they’re actually operating. Here’s the whole platform, demystified.
A hardened-Linux virtual appliance placed on each network segment; it scans internal hosts, with or without credentials, and sends results to Fortra VM securely.
Internet-facing addresses are scanned from Fortra’s own scanners with no appliance, after Fortra Support confirms by reverse lookup that the IP ranges are yours.
A paid add-on for Windows, macOS and major Linux distributions. Fortra calls agent scans essentially patch scans, and an internal scanner must still be set up.
Results land in one console, hosted in five countries or run on your own servers, where Threat Rank, Security GPA and the Network Map turn findings into a fix list.
RNA appliances scan inside, Fortra’s scanners test your public IPs, and one console, SaaS abroad or on-prem in India, ranks what they find.
Fortra VM finds what is exposed inside and outside your network, ranks it by real-world risk, and can be run for you by a Fortra analyst.
RNA appliances scan internal segments while Fortra’s scanners cover public IPs, at the frequency your subscription sets.
Stored credentials let scans log in for patch and configuration detail; scan policies include a full TCP and UDP port preset.
A DAST add-on on its own annual subscription, reporting against the OWASP Top 10 and grading each web app with a Security GPA.
The Container Scanning add-on inspects an image’s base OS for missing updates as a Docker command, so it can sit in a CI pipeline.
Threat Rank models how a flaw gets exploited and feeds an Active Risk score that also weighs exposure and the criticality you assign.
A grade-style posture score for networks and web apps, with Peer Insight setting your grade against organisations in your sector.
An agentless sweep for signs of active compromise and for hosts with missing or stale endpoint protection; it sits beside EDR.
Active View dashboards, custom reports, CIS Benchmark reports for Windows 10 and 11, and report output in languages such as Japanese.
The Connect REST API, with Swagger docs since September 2026, exports findings; Fortra’s ServiceNow integrations are paused since May 2025.
Three short how-to clips from Fortra’s official channel, all from May 2024: deploying the RNA scanner, the Network Map, and setting up credentials for authenticated scans.
A 4:21 walkthrough of setting up the RNA scanner: import the virtual appliance, activate it and give it a network profile.
A 3:14 tour of the Network Map; the old Frontline name in the title still shows up in the product’s own interface.
A 2:36 clip on storing credentials so that scans can log in to hosts and report patch-level and configuration findings.

Most scanners hand over a findings list. Fortra also sells the product as Vulnerability Management Pro, where a Personal Security Analyst runs the scans, reads the results, builds the reports and gives remediation planning guidance. For an Indian mid-size IT team with no dedicated vulnerability analyst, that is the main reason to shortlist it.
Threat Rank models how a flaw is exploited, and Active Risk combines it with severity, asset exposure and the criticality you set per asset. Security GPA turns the result into a grade a board can track, and Peer Insight compares it with your industry. Fortra claims under 1% false positives; treat that as its own figure.
Fortra says it has been a PCI Approved Scanning Vendor for 19 years, and PCI-Pro runs ASV scans with an analyst. The on-prem edition is the same product as the SaaS, built for data rules that bar SaaS, which gives Indian BFSI and public-sector buyers a way to keep scan results in their own data centres.
No India SaaS region: the lineups are US, UK, Japan, Switzerland and Sweden. Fortra’s docs say its ServiceNow integrations have been temporarily unavailable since May 2025. It does not patch, agents cost extra, no AWS, Azure or GCP connectors are documented, no price is published, and Gartner’s 2025 EAP Magic Quadrant leaves it out.
List active devices and every network segment: devices set the price tier, and each segment needs its own RNA appliance.
Choose a SaaS lineup abroad or the on-prem edition, and record that choice in your DPDP register before the first scan.
Import the RNA appliance, add scan credentials, and ask Fortra Support to verify your public IP ranges for external scans.
Run authenticated scans, work the Active Risk list with your patch team, then rescan and watch the Security GPA move.
Pick VM Advanced or VM Pro, decide on WAS, agents and Active Threat Sweep, then settle the INR quote with GST.
Modelled on Gartner Peer Insights structure. *Counts and breakdowns are illustrative pending verified review collection.
“The VM Pro analyst runs our monthly scans and walks us through each report; a two-person team could never hold that rhythm.”
“Security GPA gave our board one grade to follow quarter to quarter, and Peer Insight showed where we stood against peers.”
“We run the on-prem edition so scan results never leave our data centre; it behaves just like the SaaS trial we began with.”
“We planned to push findings into ServiceNow, then learned the integration has been paused since May 2025. We script the API.”
“False positives were rare in the pilot, so our patch team trusts the list. Agents cost extra, so laptops waited a quarter.”
“Each RNA appliance took an afternoon per site. External scans waited until Fortra Support had verified our public IP ranges.”
Analyst firms bury this view behind paywalls, and review-site grids score satisfaction, not fit for your estate. So here’s TechBag’s synthesis of the vulnerability management market — tap any vendor to see why it sits where it does.
Execution strength vs product vision — the classic market map, minus the paywall.
Quote-only; no India SaaS region; no analyst placement.
The grid nobody publishes — how much of the scanning work the vendor does for you vs how much of the estate the product reaches and fixes: cloud, web apps, agents and patching.
VM Pro analyst; no patching, cloud connectors or working ServiceNow link.
Positions are TechBag’s illustrative synthesis of public review-platform data and vendor documentation — not a reproduction of any analyst graphic. Verify before relying on it.

Fortra Vulnerability Management (Fortra VM) is one of 23 vulnerability management products TechBag carries. The Vulnerability Management guide narrows them to a shortlist and shows the reasoning. →
Drag the sliders (devices you scan; staff-hour cost). The estimate assumes 0.5 staff hours a month per device spent running scans, triaging raw findings and chasing owners, and that risk ranking plus scheduled reports remove 60% of it. Both figures are assumptions. Illustrative.
Loaded cost = salary + overheads per productive hour. Illustrative only — your TechBag quote models your actual environment and modules.
Quote only. Fortra says Fortra VM pricing tiers are based on the number of active devices, but it publishes no tier price and no INR list. Web Application Scanning, Active Threat Sweep, Agent Scans and Container Scanning are each a separate annual subscription, VM Pro costs more than self-run VM Advanced, and a free trial is offered. The AWS Marketplace figure is a placeholder, not a price. TechBag gets the quote itemised in INR with GST.
Best for teams that run their own scanning
Best for a broader rollout
Best for teams with no vulnerability analyst

How does Fortra count an active device, and what happens to the price if the count grows during the term?
Which SaaS lineup would hold our data, or should we run on-prem? None of the five hosting countries is India.
Are the ServiceNow integrations, unavailable since May 2025, back yet? If not, budget for scripting the API.
Is our subscription quarterly, monthly or unlimited scanning, and does it cover rescans after we fix things?
Which add-ons are in the quote: WAS, Active Threat Sweep, Agent Scans, Container Scanning? Each bills separately.
On VM Pro, how much of the analyst’s time do we get each month, and in which hours and time zone do they work?
How will AWS, Azure or GCP workloads get scanned, given that no cloud-account connectors are documented?
What term, device tier and support level does the quote cover? Ask TechBag for it in INR with GST, add-ons itemised.
