Quick answer
The complete BMC Helix family — every linked card is a full intel page, from the core service management platform to the AIOps half of ServiceOps.
Incident, problem, change, request — with the CMDB and asset management already in the box.
The core service management platform, and the product the Gartner Leader placement is about. What matters commercially is what it INCLUDES: BMC’s own subscriber entitlements chart lists ‘Asset & Configuration Management (CMDB)’ as a line item in both the Standard and Advanced editions. Third-party blogs that describe the CMDB as a paid add-on are wrong — and at least one of those sources is a competing CMDB vendor. Runs SaaS or on-premises.
The configuration model underneath everything else — CIs, relationships and impact.
Sources, stores and reconciles configuration items and, critically, the relationships between them, so a change manager can see what a change will actually touch. Formerly BMC Atrium CMDB. It is a distinctly documented product with its own release stream, which is why it has its own page here — but it is bundled with the platform licence rather than sold separately. The engine that POPULATES it, Helix Discovery, is the separate purchase.
Automatic discovery and dependency mapping — what keeps the CMDB true.
Scans the estate and populates the CMDB automatically, which is the difference between a configuration model that reflects reality and one that decays into a spreadsheet nobody trusts. This is the one BMC Helix product with a published entry price, and it is a five-figure one: the Discovery Starter Bundle begins at $50,000. It does not appear in the platform entitlements chart at all — budget it separately or the CMDB you bought will be maintained by hand.
The self-service portal and catalog employees actually see.
The employee-facing layer over the service desk: a self-service portal, a service catalog, and the Employee Navigator experience. Separately licensed from BMC Helix ITSM, with its own documentation space and its own release cycle. Buy it when deflection is the goal — when the aim is fewer tickets raised rather than faster tickets closed.
AIOps — monitoring, event noise reduction and probable cause.
The operations side of what BMC calls ServiceOps: observability data, event correlation and AIOps sitting alongside the service desk rather than in a separate tool with a separate team. This is the product that makes the ServiceOps pitch concrete — incidents that open themselves from a detected fault, with the configuration model already attached. Licensed separately from ITSM.
The agentic AI layer across the suite — agentic chat, agentic search and a studio for building agents. Folded into the platform pages rather than sold here as a standalone product page, because that is how BMC licenses it.
Service management for HR, facilities and other lines of business on the same platform — the ESM extension beyond IT.
BMC Helix is one of the ITSM platforms TechBag carries in endpoint management. The Endpoint Management guide shows how the category splits and which part is yours. →
Enterprise IT pain comes from a service desk that cannot answer two questions: what changed, and what will this change break. That is a configuration problem before it is a ticketing problem — spreadsheets and disconnected tools. ServiceNow bet on a configuration model that is actually kept accurate— incidents, changes and assets resolved against one CMDB, with discovery feeding it and AIOps opening incidents from detected faults. That is what BMC calls ServiceOps.
BMC documents an India service location on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure in MUMBAI, with backups stored in HYDERABAD — both inside the country. BMC’s own wording is that data ‘remains within the same country for that service’. That is a statement about where data is STORED. TechBag states the storage region and claims nothing about where data is processed, because BMC does not separately document processing location. BMC does document one exception and it belongs in your risk register rather than in a footnote: services using IBM Watson features may transfer select data outside the country. If your obligation is a storage-location obligation, this is the strongest answer in the ITSM category. If your auditor is asking about processing, ask BMC directly and get it in writing.
Almost every ITSM platform in this category is SaaS-only. BMC Helix is not. The modern on-premises deployment is containerised, has fresh-install documentation rather than upgrade-only notes, and receives current releases: 26.2.01 shipped to SaaS on 29 May 2026 and to on-premises on 8 June 2026, eight days apart. Release 26.3 explicitly added further products available for on-premises installation. The confusion to avoid is with Remedy: Remedy is the legacy line, and BMC positions Helix ITSM as its next generation. Modern Helix on-premises is a current, supported option and a different thing entirely. One honest caveat: every entitlement SKU BMC publishes is marked SaaS, and BMC does not state publicly whether on-premises is sold to NEW customers — so confirm that at quote stage.
The CMDB and asset management are included in the platform licence — BMC’s subscriber entitlements chart lists Asset & Configuration Management in both Standard and Advanced. Helix Discovery is not in that chart at all: it is a separate purchase with a published Starter Bundle from $50,000. This matters more than it sounds. Discovery is what populates the CMDB automatically; without it the configuration model is maintained manually and drifts. Budget for both or expect the CMDB to decay. One more licensing term worth knowing before you negotiate: customers buy either BMC Helix Service Management or BMC Helix ITSM within a single subscription, not both.
There are two events, and they are often conflated. In October 2024 BMC announced it would create two independent companies, BMC and BMC Helix. Then on 17 June 2026 Montagu agreed to acquire a majority stake in BMC Helix in a carve-out from KKR-owned BMC Software, with KKR retaining BMC and a minority of Helix. The transaction has NOT completed: BMC’s own release states it ‘remains subject to receipt of regulatory approvals and satisfaction of customary closing conditions’, and no closing date has been disclosed. Practically: a three-year agreement is being signed with a business whose majority owner is changing, and roadmap, support structure and pricing posture can all move after a carve-out closes. Ali Siddiqui is CEO of BMC Helix — not Ayman Sayed, who leads BMC Software, the other company.
Start with the platform (BMC Helix ITSM, with the CMDB included) — then decide whether Discovery is funded, because that is what keeps the configuration model true.

Answer three questions; we’ll point you at the right starting product. No email required — this isn’t that kind of quiz.
1. What actually triggered this project?
2. Where must the data sit?
3. How accurate is your current asset and configuration record?
A configuration management database records your components and, more usefully, the relationships between them — so you can answer what a change will break before you make it. With BMC it is bundled into the platform licence, which makes the real question not whether you get one but what will keep it accurate.
Read →The CMDB comes with the platform. The engine that populates it does not: BMC Helix Discovery is a separate SKU starting at $50,000. Skip it and the configuration model is maintained by hand, drifts out of date, and still gets used for change decisions — which is worse than having none.
Read →Unusually for this category, on-premises is a current option rather than a legacy holdout: containerised, with fresh-install docs and releases eight days behind SaaS. Two caveats matter — on-premises is not the old Remedy line, and every SKU BMC publishes is marked SaaS, so confirm new-customer availability at quote stage.
Read →Digital Workplace is licensed separately from the service desk because it solves a different problem: fewer tickets raised, rather than tickets closed faster. Decide which number you are actually trying to move before you scope it, because the two buy different things.

If it names a data STORAGE location, BMC Helix has the strongest answer in this category: OCI Mumbai with backups in Hyderabad, both in-country. If it asks about PROCESSING, that is a different question and BMC does not document it separately — ask for it in writing before you shortlist. And note BMC’s own documented exception: services using IBM Watson features may transfer select data outside the country.
This is one of the few ITSM platforms where on-premises is genuinely current rather than a legacy holdout — containerised, with fresh-install documentation and releases eight days behind SaaS. But every entitlement SKU BMC publishes is marked SaaS, and BMC does not state publicly whether on-premises is still sold to new customers. Get that confirmed at quote stage rather than assuming it.
The CMDB is bundled. The thing that keeps it accurate is not: Helix Discovery is a separate SKU with a Starter Bundle from $50,000. A CMDB with no discovery feeding it is maintained by hand, and it drifts. Price both together or you have not priced the outcome you actually want.
Montagu agreed on 17 June 2026 to take a majority stake, and the deal is still subject to regulatory approval with no disclosed closing date. Ask directly how support structure, roadmap commitments and renewal pricing are protected across the close, and get the answer in the contract rather than in a slide.
This is the heaviest platform in the category. Below roughly 500 seats it is usually overkill, and the implementation effort is a real programme rather than a configuration exercise. TechBag also sells ServiceNow, Freshservice and ManageEngine, and will say plainly when one of those is the better fit for your size.
| Product | Licensing model | How you enter | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| BMC Helix ITSM | Quote-only, per user | No published rate card | The platform, with CMDB and asset management included |
| BMC Helix CMDB | Bundled with the platform | Included in Standard and Advanced | Configuration items, relationships and change impact |
| BMC Helix Discovery | Separate SKU — published entry price | Starter Bundle from $50,000 | Keeping the CMDB accurate without manual upkeep |
| The licensing trap | One or the other | Not both in one subscription | Helix Service Management OR Helix ITSM — know which you are buying |
Every workflow is quote-priced (per fulfiller/employee/module, by edition) — TechBag right-sizes the mix and models it in INR/GST for your size.
The single most expensive mistake here, and the easiest to make because the CMDB genuinely is bundled. What is not bundled is the thing that keeps it true. Helix Discovery starts at $50,000 and does not appear in the platform entitlements chart at all. A CMDB nobody trusts is worse than no CMDB, because change decisions get made from it anyway.
It is not one. PeopleCert ended its relationship with Pink Elephant in May 2023, the registry now describes itself as aligned with multiple frameworks and ISO/IEC 20000, and it publishes no expiry dates at all — so currency cannot be verified from it. The registry entry is real and it lists 18 process areas including configuration and asset management. That is what it is worth citing as, and no more.
The PinkVERIFY entry reads ‘BMC Helix 25.4’. That is the version that was assessed, not what you would be deploying — the current release is 26.3. Buyers occasionally quote the registry version back in a negotiation and look a year out of date.
Remedy is the legacy line and BMC positions Helix ITSM as its next generation. Modern Helix on-premises is a different thing: containerised, currently released, and actively developed. Treating ‘on-prem’ as a synonym for ‘legacy Remedy’ leads buyers to rule out a deployment model that is genuinely available. Note also that the widely repeated Remedy end-of-life date is third-party sourcing only — BMC’s own page states no such date, so do not plan around one.
There are two companies and two chief executives. Ali Siddiqui is CEO of BMC Helix. Ayman Sayed is President and CEO of BMC Software, which after the carve-out is a separate business. A paper about your Helix contract that names Sayed reads as though it was written before the split.

What it means for you
The transaction is NOT closed — BMC’s own release says it remains subject to regulatory approvals, and no closing date has been disclosed. Ask how support, roadmap and renewal pricing are protected across the close.
BMC Helix product URLs on bmc.com now 301-redirect to helixops.ai, and the documentation has moved to docs.helixops.ai.
What it means for you
A visible sign the separation is real and already underway, ahead of the transaction closing. Bookmarks and vendor links pointing at bmc.com will redirect rather than break.
Magic Quadrant for ITSM Platforms, 27 July 2026 — BMC Helix placed as a Leader for the tenth time, in the first ITSM Magic Quadrant since 2022, with 16 vendors evaluated.
What it means for you
Worth stating precisely, because several adjacent categories have no Magic Quadrant at all — a claimed Leader placement is always worth checking against the actual report.
HelixGPT, Agent Studio, agentic chat and agentic search shipping through releases 26.1 to 26.3.
What it means for you
The direction the whole category is moving. Judge it on deflection and auto-resolution rates in your own pilot rather than on the demo — that is where these claims usually thin out.
BMC Helix Operations Management sits alongside the service desk, so a detected fault can open its own incident with the configuration model already attached.
What it means for you
The practical argument for buying both halves from one vendor. It only pays off if the CMDB is accurate, which loops back to whether Discovery is funded.
