Your files have to leave the building to do their job. The card numbers inside them don’t — Menlo AI Adaptive DLP finds personal, health and payment data in files with AI and masks it in place, so browser uploads, email, collaboration tools, web portals and cloud storage keep working.

This page covers Menlo AI Adaptive DLP — the masking add-on module. The rest:
Most product pages skip this. We start here — so you buy a capability, not a buzzword.
Instead of stopping a file, it replaces the sensitive values inside it and lets the rest of the file continue.
What consolidation actually replaces, dimension by dimension.
| Dimension | Block-or-allow DLP | Menlo AI Adaptive DLP |
|---|---|---|
| A file holding card data | The upload fails and the user calls IT | The card number is masked; the file goes |
| Writing detection | Regex dictionaries tuned by hand | AI detection plus custom detectors |
| What the recipient gets | Nothing, or the unredacted original | A usable file with the fields masked |
| Endpoint footprint | A DLP agent on every laptop | None; it runs in the Menlo Cloud |
| Channels in scope | A separate control per channel | Web, email, collaboration, portals, storage |
| What it is NOT | — | USB or print control, or a standalone DLP suite |
The cheapest test is your own files: put a sample set with PAN, card and health fields through a pilot and inspect what comes out.
Vendors love diagrams; buyers need to know what they’re actually operating. Here’s the whole platform, demystified.
Every file in a covered flow is read by AI that recognises personal, health and payment-card data automatically; custom detectors add the identifiers your business defines.
A detected value is masked where it sits and the remainder of the document is left alone, so the file still opens and the transfer completes rather than failing on a block.
Browser uploads and downloads, email, collaboration tools, web portals and cloud storage: five routes a file takes in or out, all inside the module’s documented scope.
The module is cloud-delivered with nothing installed on the endpoint, and Menlo dedicates resources to each tenant; its status page lists logging as Global, not regional.
AI detection and in-file masking in the Menlo Cloud — five data flows covered, nothing installed on the endpoint.
Menlo AI Adaptive DLP masks the sensitive fields in a file and lets the file go on its way.
Personal, health and payment-card data is detected automatically and in real time, without a dictionary someone must write first.
Detection is extensible: add custom detectors for identifiers your business treats as sensitive beyond the built-in categories.
Only the sensitive values are masked and the transfer carries on, so a legitimate send is not halted mid-task by a hard block.
Menlo says masking leaves the file otherwise pristine, so the recipient can still open, read and work with the redacted document.
Files moving through the browser in either direction are inspected, as are files exchanged through the web portals staff use.
Coverage reaches email, collaboration tools and cloud storage, so a file is masked wherever it happens to be shared.

Classic DLP has two answers: let the file through or stop it. AI Adaptive DLP adds a third. It masks the PII, PHI or payment-card values it finds and lets the rest of the file travel, so a contract or claim form still arrives, minus the data that should never have left.
Detection is AI-based and automatic for personal, health and payment data, so nobody starts by building regex dictionaries. Custom detectors extend it to identifiers of your own. Menlo documents no Indian types such as PAN or Aadhaar, so prove those with sample files first.
It is not tied to the browser alone. Menlo lists browser uploads and downloads, email, collaboration tools, web portals and cloud storage as covered flows, and the module runs in the Menlo Cloud with nothing installed on laptops and resources dedicated to each tenant.
It is an add-on, not a standalone DLP suite. With no endpoint agent there is no USB, print or clipboard control; no insider-risk analytics are documented and no price is published. And with logs held in a Global service, keeping DLP records inside India means exporting them yourself.
Name the forms, statements and records that leave daily, the routes they take, and the fields in them that must not travel.
Run real files with card, health and personal data through a trial; write custom detectors for PAN, Aadhaar or account formats.
Turn masking on for one route, such as browser uploads to a single partner portal, and check every masked file still opens.
Add email, collaboration tools and cloud storage once the pilot holds, and tell staff what a masked field looks like.
Send logs to your SIEM through the Log Export API to keep CERT-In’s 180 days, and review missed and over-masked files.

“Claim forms used to bounce on a hard block. Now the card numbers are masked and the form still reaches the insurer.”
“We tested with our own referral letters; the health fields came back masked and the letter layout survived intact.”
“No agent to push to laptops was the selling point. The pilot started as soon as the tenant was ready.”
“Our PAN and Aadhaar formats were not recognised as shipped, so we wrote custom detectors before going live.”
“Supplier portals were the win: vendors get the purchase spec, minus customer names someone attached by mistake.”
“Budgeting was slow. It is quote-only, and the add-on had to be priced alongside our existing Menlo licences.”
Analyst firms bury this view behind paywalls, and G2 retired its Grid. So here’s TechBag’s synthesis of the DLP market — tap any vendor to see why it sits where it does.
Execution strength vs product vision — the classic market map, minus the paywall.
Add-on module, launched from the Votiro deal of 2025; quote-only.
The grid nobody publishes — how far a match lets the work carry on (mask vs block) vs how many channels the product watches.
Masks fields and lets the file go; five flows, no device.

Menlo AI Adaptive DLP is one of 20 DLP & insider risk products TechBag carries. The DLP & Insider Risk guide narrows them to a shortlist and shows the reasoning. →
Drag the sliders (staff who send files outside the organisation; staff-hour cost). Estimates model time lost to blocked transfers, exception requests and manual redaction at an assumed 1.5 hours per person a year, with 70% of it removed by masking sensitive fields instead of blocking the file. Both figures are assumptions. Illustrative.
Loaded cost = salary + overheads per productive hour. Illustrative only — your TechBag quote models your actual environment and modules.
Not published: Menlo prices by the packages deployed (Protect, Secure or Manage) and the number of user licences, and AI Adaptive DLP is bought as an add-on on top. Volume discounts are offered, and the EchoQuote estimator returns a budgetary figure. Basic support is included; Menlo Care360 is the premium tier. TechBag scopes your data types and flows, then quotes in INR with GST.

Take this into your next vendor call — including ours.
Do you already hold a Menlo licence? The module is an add-on, so price it with the platform it needs underneath.
Which fields matter most — PII, health or card data — and which Indian identifiers need custom detectors written?
Which routes carry the risk: browser uploads, email, collaboration tools, web portals or cloud storage?
For which files is a masked copy acceptable, and where must a transfer still be stopped outright?
Do USB sticks or printers matter? The module has no endpoint agent, so device control needs another product.
Logging is listed as Global. How will you export logs to a SIEM and hold them for CERT-In’s 180 days?
Have the partners who receive masked files agreed that a redacted copy still meets their needs?
Does the quote itemise users, the add-on and the support tier? Ask for INR with GST and the renewal terms.
List the files that must keep moving and the fields that must not, or let a TechBag advisor scope a masking pilot on one data flow.
