Your VMs run on two hypervisors and your files on a NAS. Their backups shouldn’t need three tools — NAKIVO Backup & Replication backs up VMware, Hyper-V, Nutanix AHV, Proxmox, EC2, physical machines and NAS shares from one console, to storage you own — with a published per-workload price and failover on Enterprise editions.

Most product pages skip this. We start here — so you buy a capability, not a buzzword.
Self-hosted backup is software you run, writing copies to storage you own, so no vendor holds your data.
What consolidation actually replaces, dimension by dimension.
| Dimension | A backup tool per platform | NAKIVO Backup & Replication |
|---|---|---|
| Coverage | A different tool or script for each platform | VMs, physical, NAS, Oracle and EC2 in one console |
| Where backups live | Wherever each tool decided | Repositories you choose, immutable on Linux and cloud |
| Bringing a VM back | A full restore before anyone can work | Flash VM Boot runs it from the backup first |
| Ransomware | Hope the backup is clean | Immutable copies and a malware scan before restore |
| Price | A quote for each product | Published per-workload list price for up to 50 workloads |
| What it is NOT | — | A hosted backup cloud, or hardware NAKIVO supplies |
The cheapest test is the 15-day full trial: back up one host to your NAS, boot a VM from the backup, and time the restore.
Vendors love diagrams; buyers need to know what they’re actually operating. Here’s the whole platform, demystified.
Holds the inventory, jobs, schedules and Site Recovery workflows in one browser console; licences are not counted per Transporter, so extra data movers cost nothing.
Reads each source workload, compresses and encrypts the stream, and writes it to a repository; you place more Transporters near sources or targets as the estate grows.
A local folder, NAS or SMB/NFS share, deduplication appliance, tape library, or an S3, Azure Blob, Wasabi or Backblaze B2 bucket, immutable on Linux and cloud targets.
Windows or Linux, a Synology, QNAP, ASUSTOR or TrueNAS NAS, a VMware or Nutanix virtual appliance, or a hardened EC2 AMI; NAKIVO sells software only, no hardware.
A Director and its Transporters on a NAS, VM or AMI — writing to repositories you own, immutable on Linux and cloud.
NAKIVO Backup & Replication puts a mixed estate under one console, on storage you own.
Image-based backup of VMware, Hyper-V, Nutanix AHV and Proxmox VMs, plus EC2, with Proxmox handled natively since v11.
Windows and Linux machines get image backup and bare-metal recovery, and since v11.1 granular folder or volume jobs.
SMB and NFS shares licensed per terabyte, Oracle via RMAN on Enterprise Plus, and Microsoft 365 on its own per-user licence.
Flash VM Boot runs a VM straight from the repository, and granular restore brings back single files or application objects.
Scheduled replication keeps copies of VMware, Hyper-V, Proxmox and EC2 workloads ready; AHV and physical get backup only.
Enterprise editions chain failover, failback, scripts and checks into one job, tested on a schedule in an isolated network.
Immutable backups on Linux repositories, S3, Wasabi, Azure Blob, Backblaze B2, HYDRAstor and Data Domain resist deletion.
Backups are scanned with ClamAV, ESET NOD32, Microsoft Defender or Sophos Intercept X first, so an infection is not restored.
AES-256 at the source, in flight and at rest, with AWS KMS key management, two-factor sign-in and role-based access.
Replication for VMs and EC2, a Site Recovery workflow, physical machine backup, and scanning a backup for malware before restore. All from NAKIVO’s official channel.
Standby replicas for VMs and Amazon EC2 instances, and how they are kept current.
Building an ordered failover workflow and running it as a test or for real.
Image backup of Windows and Linux servers and workstations alongside the VMs.
Checking a recovery point with an anti-malware engine before it is restored.

Most products in this guide are quote-only. NAKIVO lists Pro Essentials at $2.45 per workload a month and Enterprise Essentials, which adds Site Recovery, at $3.20, both on a 1-year term in packs of five up to 50 workloads. Enterprise Plus and larger estates are quoted.
VMware, Hyper-V, Nutanix AHV, Proxmox, EC2, physical machines, NAS shares and Oracle sit in one Director, and subscription units can be re-assigned between workload types. A team leaving VMware for Proxmox or AHV keeps the same tool and the same licence count.
It installs on a NAS, a Windows or Linux server, a virtual appliance or an EC2 AMI, and writes to local disk, NAS, tape, dedupe appliances or S3-compatible clouds, immutable on Linux and cloud repositories. NAKIVO keeps no copy, so where your backups live is your decision.
Site Recovery needs an Enterprise edition and covers VMware, Hyper-V and EC2 only; AHV has no replication. CVE-2024-48248 is on CISA’s exploited list, fixed since v11.0. Gartner gave honorable mentions only, in 2022 and 2024, and NAKIVO has no India office.
List every VM, server, NAS share and database by platform, and flag what needs failover, not just backup.
Choose Pro or Enterprise Essentials, a 1- or 3-year term, and where repositories sit: NAS, tape, site or AWS Mumbai.
Deploy the Director on a NAS, VM or AMI, add Transporters, enable immutability and back up a pilot group of workloads.
Boot a VM with Flash VM Boot, restore a file, scan a recovery point for malware, and time each against your target.
Add the remaining workloads, build Site Recovery jobs on Enterprise editions, and schedule isolated test failovers.

“We installed it on the Synology we already had. Thirty VMs were backing up the same afternoon, with no Windows server to license.”
“Half our hosts moved from VMware to Proxmox last year. The jobs changed, the backup tool and the licence count did not.”
“The price on the website matched the partner quote. Budgeting 40 workloads on Enterprise Essentials took ten minutes.”
“Flash VM Boot had our billing server running from the NAS in minutes while the real restore copied in the background.”
“Our Nutanix cluster gets backups but no replicas, so Site Recovery does not reach it. Check your hypervisors before you buy.”
“We were on 10.x when the file-read CVE hit CISA’s list. Patching took an hour; now we track every release note.”

Drag the sliders (workloads you protect; IT staff-hour cost). Estimates model staff time spent running separate backup tools per platform, checking failed jobs and doing slow full restores, at an assumed 1.5 hours per workload a year, with 70% of it removed by one console, instant VM boot and scheduled restore tests. Both figures are assumptions. Illustrative.
Loaded cost = salary + overheads per productive hour. Illustrative only — your TechBag quote models your actual environment and modules.
Published, in USD. Pro Essentials is $2.45 per workload a month and Enterprise Essentials, which adds Site Recovery, $3.20, both on a 1-year term ($1.95 and $2.55 on 3 years), billed yearly in packs of five from 5 to 50 workloads. Perpetual licences start at $229 per CPU socket (Pro Essentials) or $329 (Enterprise Essentials), with a year of business-hours support. Pro, Enterprise and Enterprise Plus are contact-sales. These are suggested retail prices excluding GST, and NAKIVO shows no rupee price; the real promotion is a 5% trade-in discount. Storage is your own cost. TechBag sizes the edition first, then quotes in INR with GST.

Which hypervisors do you run? Site Recovery covers VMware, Hyper-V and EC2; Nutanix AHV gets backup only.
Do you need failover workflows? Site Recovery starts at Enterprise Essentials; Pro Essentials and Pro lack it.
Will you stay under 50 workloads? Above that the Essentials editions stop and Pro or Enterprise is quoted.
Subscription or perpetual? The two cannot be mixed in one deployment, and only subscriptions get 24/7 support.
Where will repositories live — NAS, tape, your Indian site, or AWS Mumbai? NAKIVO hosts no copy for you.
Is at least one copy immutable, on a Linux repository or a cloud bucket, and out of reach of domain admins?
Are you on v11.0.2 or later? CVE-2024-48248 is on CISA’s exploited list; the current release is v11.2.3.
Who runs a timed restore every quarter, and who keeps the evidence your auditors or regulator will ask for?
