Your network, servers and cloud sit in five consoles. The data can stay in your own data centre — SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted watches your network, servers, applications and cloud accounts from servers you run — on-premises or in your own AWS, Azure or GCP instances, licensed per node from $8 a month.

This page covers SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted — Essentials, Advanced and Premier, plus NPM, SAM and the other Orion modules still sold singly. The rest:
Most product pages skip this. We start here — so you buy a capability, not a buzzword.
Monitoring software you install and run yourself — it polls your network, servers, applications and cloud accounts and keeps the history on infrastructure you control.
What consolidation actually replaces, dimension by dimension.
| Dimension | A console per module, renewals in a spreadsheet | SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted |
|---|---|---|
| Licences to renew | One per Orion module, each on its own date | One per-node subscription across tiers |
| Finding the cause | Switching between separate module consoles | PerfStack puts every layer on one timeline |
| Cloud resources | A separate cloud console per provider | AWS, Azure and GCP beside on-prem nodes |
| Where data sits | Wherever each tool’s vendor chose | On servers or cloud accounts you control |
| Patching | Module by module, when someone remembers | One platform release cycle to track and apply |
| What it is NOT | — | Not managed for you — SaaS is the hosted option |
The cheapest test is the 30-day trial: point it at one site's network and servers, build the alerts your on-call needs, and compare it with what you run now.
Vendors love diagrams; buyers need to know what they’re actually operating. Here’s the whole platform, demystified.
One server holds the main polling engine and the Web Console. It asks every monitored device for statistics over ICMP, SNMP, WMI, APIs or agents, on a schedule you set.
Polled data is processed and written to the platform database, which SolarWinds says belongs on its own server; the console reads from it, so its sizing sets how much history you keep.
Enterprise editions add polling engines, extra web servers, high availability and the Enterprise Operations Console, which rolls several instances up into one view for a larger estate.
An administrator can link the install to SolarWinds Observability SaaS. That link powers anomaly-based alerting and the SW1 agent, and it sends data to SolarWinds’ cloud.
A polling engine, a database and a web console on servers you run — with an opt-in link to SolarWinds’ cloud.
SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted brings the old Orion modules under one per-node licence that runs on your own infrastructure.
The NPM heritage: device and interface health, custom SNMP pollers, NetPath hop-by-hop views and routing data tied back to interface state.
SAM’s capabilities come in Essentials: processes, services and app components on Windows and Linux, with agent, agentless or API-sourced metrics.
AWS, Azure and Google Cloud compute, storage and database metrics sit beside on-prem kit; Advanced adds virtualization monitoring and management.
PerfStack lays network, server, application and Database Performance Analyzer metrics on a single timeline, so a slowdown can be traced across layers.
Advanced brings flow monitoring from the NTA line and network device configuration management from NCM, so a change can be matched to a traffic spike.
Advanced and Premier learn normal behaviour and alert on deviations, but this runs through Platform Connect, so it needs the opt-in cloud link.
Thresholds, baselines, schedules and logic decide when to fire; email, webhooks and scripts deliver, with suppression, escalation and remediation actions.
Advanced adds a security vulnerability dashboard and hooks for Security Event Manager and Access Rights Manager — each of those needs its own licence.
SolarWinds’ licensing page lists SW1, its agentic AI, as a Platform Connect tech preview for Self-Hosted; plan on it changing tier or price at GA.

Book a guided demo →Here’s what genuinely sets it apart — and exactly where it stops.
It runs behind your firewall — on servers in your data centre, or in AWS, Azure or GCP accounts you manage — so metrics, configs and topology stay where you put them. For Indian data rules that is the draw: the SaaS edition documents no India region, and this one needs none.
NPM, SAM, IPAM, UDT and log analysis come in Essentials at $8 a node a month; Advanced at $14 adds flow, config, virtualization and anomaly alerts; Premier at $17.50 adds storage and web performance. Ping-only nodes are free, and nodes can be spread across several instances.
Platform Connect is opt-in. Switch it on and the install shares data with SolarWinds Observability SaaS, and Premier already carries a SaaS network and infrastructure entitlement — a way to trial the cloud edition without migrating first.
You patch it. SUNBURST reached customers through Orion updates in 2020, and on 22 September 2026 SolarWinds fixed a 9.8 remote-code-execution flaw in 2026.2.3. It is also a server estate to run, AI features lean on the cloud link, and polling stops if the subscription lapses.
List devices, servers and cloud resources, drop ping-only nodes, and decide whether you need Advanced’s flow, config and virtualization.
Plan the main polling server and a separate database server, in your data centre or your own cloud account, and note the retention you need.
Run the 30-day trial on one site’s network and servers, build alerts that fit your on-call, and compare it with the modules you run now.
Agree with security whether the cloud link is allowed; anomaly alerts and SW1 depend on it, and the data then reaches SolarWinds’ cloud.
Subscribe to SolarWinds’ security advisories, set a window for each platform release, and retire the separate module consoles you replaced.

“We had NPM, SAM and NCM on three renewals. Moving to one Advanced node count cut the paperwork and finally gave us flow data too.”
“NetPath showed the packet loss sat on our ISP’s third hop, not our firewall. That one screen ended a week of finger-pointing.”
“Our regulator wanted monitoring data kept in-house. Running it on our own Mumbai servers settled that before procurement even asked.”
“Anomaly alerts needed Platform Connect, which our security team had to approve first. Plan that conversation before you promise the feature.”
“After September’s advisories we moved to 2026.2.3 within the week. Self-hosting means the patch calendar is ours, and we now own it properly.”
“PerfStack put DPA wait times next to interface errors on one chart, and the app team stopped blaming the network for slow reports.”

SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted is one of 23 observability & apm products TechBag carries. The Observability & APM guide narrows them to a shortlist and shows the reasoning. →
Drag the sliders (nodes you monitor; engineer-hour cost). Estimates model engineer time spent switching between separate monitoring consoles, chasing noisy alerts and tracing faults across network and server layers at an assumed 1.5 hours per node a year, with 70% of it removed by one correlated platform. Both figures are assumptions. Illustrative.
Loaded cost = salary + overheads per productive hour. Illustrative only — your TechBag quote models your actual environment and modules.
Published, in USD per node a month on multi-year contracts billed annually: Essentials from $8, Advanced $14 and Premier $17.50, with volume discounts and free ping-only nodes. Enterprise editions (500+ nodes, required above 1,500) are quoted, as are NPM, SAM and the other standalone modules; SEM and ARM integrations need their own licences. TechBag counts your licensable nodes first, then quotes the full term in INR with GST.
Best for network and server basics
Best for a broader rollout
Best for teams that need flow and config
Whatever the list prices above, TechBag negotiates a significantly better deal — with GST-compliant INR invoicing and local support. Ask us for your discounted quote.
Tell us your requirements and current tools — we’ll model it against what you spend today.
Take this into your next vendor call — including ours.
How many nodes will count? Ping-only nodes are free; anything with interfaces, app monitors or configs uses a licence.
Do you need flow, NCM, virtualization or anomaly alerts? Those start at Advanced, $14 rather than $8 a node a month.
Are you above 500 nodes? Enterprise editions start there and are required past 1,500, bringing extra pollers and HA.
Will security allow Platform Connect? Anomaly alerting and SW1 need it, and it moves data to SolarWinds’ cloud.
Who reads SolarWinds’ Trust Center advisories and applies each release? On a self-hosted install, nobody else will.
Do you want SEM or ARM on the same console? Advanced integrates both, but each needs its own licence.
What happens at renewal? Polling of new data stops when the subscription expires, so budget the full contract term.
Can finance pay USD on an annual invoice, or do you need INR billing with GST through a reseller?
