Your cloud bill arrives as a spreadsheet of meters. You should know the price before you deploy — Akamai Cloud, formerly Linode, sells virtual machines, GPUs, Kubernetes, managed databases and object storage on a published price list, with Chennai, Mumbai and Mumbai 2 regions billed at the same USD rate as everywhere else.

A cloud where each plan has a printed monthly price that already includes disk and a bundle of transfer.
What consolidation actually replaces, dimension by dimension.
| Dimension | A metered hyperscaler bill | Akamai Cloud (formerly Linode) |
|---|---|---|
| Knowing the price | A calculator export per workload | A public plan list with monthly caps |
| Data leaving the cloud | Metered per GB after a small allowance | 1–20 TB bundled; $0.005/GB over |
| Indian region price | Varies by service and region | Base USD rate in all three Indian regions |
| Kubernetes control plane | Charged per cluster-hour | Free; $60/month for HA |
| Managed service range | Hundreds of services | About 15 cloud products |
| What it is NOT | — | A data-warehouse, identity or SaaS-suite cloud |
The cheapest test is one workload: run it on a shared plan in an Indian region for a month and compare the bill line by line.
Vendors love diagrams; buyers need to know what they’re actually operating. Here’s the whole platform, demystified.
Akamai counts 25+ core regions. India has three: Chennai (in-maa), Mumbai (ap-west) and Mumbai 2 (in-bom-2, announced October 2024), all billed at the base USD rate.
Shared plans start with the $5 Nanode; Dedicated CPU starts at $36 a month for 2 vCPUs; High Memory and Premium tiers sit above, and GPU plans bill by the hour from $0.52.
A managed Kubernetes control plane that is free as standard, $60 a month with high availability, or $300 a month as LKE Enterprise; worker nodes bill as ordinary plans.
MySQL and PostgreSQL clusters start at $16 a month for one 1 GB node or $37 for three; Object Storage starts at $5 a month with 1 TB of transfer, except in Mumbai 2.
Flat-priced plans in 25+ regions — three of them Indian — with Kubernetes, databases and buckets billed as services of one cloud.
Akamai Cloud prints a monthly price on every plan and charges India the same rate as the US.
The Nanode 1 GB gives one vCPU and 25 GB of disk for $5 a month, or $0.0075 an hour if it runs only briefly.
Dedicated plans reserve whole vCPUs for steady loads such as databases and builds, from $36 a month for 2 vCPUs and 4 GB.
An RTX 4000 Ada small plan bills $0.52 an hour and an RTX6000 $1.50; Chennai and Mumbai 2 both list GPU Linodes.
The standard LKE control plane costs nothing; you pay for worker nodes. Add HA for $60 a month when uptime matters.
LKE Enterprise, at $300 a month per cluster, is the tier for teams that need more than the free or HA control plane.
Akamai bought Fermyon, a WebAssembly function-as-a-service company, on 1 December 2025; Akamai Functions sits in the catalogue.
Akamai operates the database for you; a one-node 1 GB cluster is $16 a month and a three-node cluster starts at $37.
A $5 monthly base includes 1 TB of transfer. It runs in Chennai, but Mumbai 2 lists no Object Storage at all.
Shared plans bundle 1 to 20 TB of transfer, and anything beyond costs $0.005 per GB in most regions.

Every plan has a public USD price: the Nanode at $5 a month, Dedicated 4 GB at $36, managed MySQL or PostgreSQL from $16, Object Storage from $5, an HA Kubernetes control plane at $60. Billing is hourly up to the monthly figure, so a finance team can budget a workload from the page rather than a calculator.
Chennai, Mumbai and Mumbai 2 are all core regions, and Akamai’s API shows no surcharge for them; only Jakarta and São Paulo carry one. Chennai lists GPUs, Object Storage, Managed Databases, Kubernetes and VPC. Indian customers FreshToHome and Zolvit appear in Akamai’s own case studies.
Shared plans include 1 to 20 TB of transfer, and the overage rate is $0.005 per GB in most regions. For video, downloads, APIs or anything that sends far more than it receives, that rate is the line most likely to change the comparison with a metered hyperscaler bill.
The catalogue lists about 15 cloud products, not hundreds, so a deep managed analytics, identity or data-warehouse stack lives elsewhere. Mumbai 2 has no Object Storage. Managed Databases cover MySQL and PostgreSQL only. INR prices are not published, and no Indian distributor is verified; budget from USD.
Inventory the VMs, clusters, databases and buckets to move, with each one’s monthly outbound transfer from the current bill.
Match each workload to a shared, dedicated or GPU plan, and pick Chennai, Mumbai or Mumbai 2 by the services each one needs.
Launch one service on LKE or plain Linodes with a managed PostgreSQL cluster, and compare latency from Indian users.
Copy databases and buckets, point DNS at the new endpoints, and watch transfer against the bundled allowance for a full cycle.
Resize plans from real usage, decide on HA control planes, and set a budget in INR from the USD rates with GST.

“Our streaming egress was the biggest line on the old bill. At half a cent a GB over the bundle, it stopped being the story.”
“We budgeted the whole Chennai deployment from the public plan list in an afternoon. Finance signed off without a calculator export.”
“LKE with the HA control plane runs our order services. Sixty dollars a month for that is easy to explain upstairs.”
“We planned backups to Object Storage in Mumbai 2 and found it is not offered there. Chennai holds them now.”
“Hourly RTX 4000 Ada boxes let us test an inference model for a week without a reservation or a sales call.”
“Good for compute and Postgres, but we still keep our data warehouse and identity stack on a bigger cloud.”
Analyst firms bury this view behind paywalls, and G2 retired its Grid. So here’s TechBag’s synthesis of the public cloud market — tap any vendor to see why it sits where it does.
Execution strength vs product vision — the classic market map, minus the paywall.
Public plans; CIS revenue up 39% in Q2 2026.
The grid nobody publishes — how readable and egress-friendly the price list is vs how many managed services sit behind it.
Flat plans, $0.005/GB over; about 15 cloud products.

Drag the sliders (cloud instances you run; engineer-hour cost). Estimates model engineering time spent decoding metered bills, tracking egress and reconciling invoices at an assumed 1.5 hours per instance a year, with 70% of it removed by flat plans with bundled transfer. Both figures are assumptions. Illustrative.
Loaded cost = salary + overheads per productive hour. Illustrative only — your TechBag quote models your actual environment and modules.
Published in USD: shared compute from $5/month, dedicated from $36/month, GPUs at $0.52 or $1.50 an hour, an HA Kubernetes control plane at $60/month (LKE Enterprise $300), managed MySQL or PostgreSQL from $16/month, Object Storage from $5/month, and extra transfer at $0.005/GB. Indian regions carry no uplift. TechBag sizes the plans, then budgets them in INR with GST.
