Your work mail lives on phones you don’t fully control. A device passcode is not enough protection — BlackBerry UEM manages iPhones, Android phones, Macs and Windows PCs from servers you own, an air-gapped network or UEM Cloud, and keeps work mail and files encrypted inside each app — quoted per user or per device.

This page covers BlackBerry UEM — on-premises and UEM Cloud, with Dynamics and its add-ons. The rest:
Most product pages skip this. We start here — so you buy a capability, not a buzzword.
Device management that also encrypts work data inside apps, so a compromised phone does not give it away.
What consolidation actually replaces, dimension by dimension.
| Dimension | Device policy in a shared vendor cloud | BlackBerry UEM |
|---|---|---|
| Where the server runs | A vendor’s shared cloud, wherever it sits | Your servers, an air-gapped site, or UEM Cloud |
| Work data on a hacked phone | Guarded by the device passcode alone | Encrypted inside each Dynamics app |
| Staff-owned phones | Full enrolment or no access | Android work profile or the Dynamics container |
| Smart-card sign-in | Certificates usable only at a desk reader | CAC, PIV and derived credentials on the device |
| Evidence for an auditor | The vendor’s own assurances | BSI Common Criteria, FIPS 140, ISO 27001 |
| What it is NOT | — | A Jamf-depth Mac tool, a price list or an India region |
The cheapest test is a demo plus a small pilot: put twenty devices on BlackBerry Work and check mail, files and sign-in end to end.
Vendors love diagrams; buyers need to know what they’re actually operating. Here’s the whole platform, demystified.
The UEM server holds users, groups, profiles and activation types; administrators work in the Management Console, on hardware you own or in BlackBerry’s UEM Cloud.
Dynamics, formerly Good Dynamics, wraps BlackBerry Work and other approved apps in an encrypted container, keeping work data apart from the device’s own storage.
BEMS links the Dynamics apps to Exchange or Exchange Online and to SharePoint, while CAC, PIV and government PKI plug in for certificate-based sign-in.
BlackBerry describes its Infrastructure as a global private data network spread over several regions; it names no countries, so ask where traffic for India transits.
A UEM server you host or rent as UEM Cloud — and on every phone, a Dynamics container that keeps work data encrypted.
BlackBerry UEM manages devices from servers you control and keeps work data encrypted inside its own apps.
Release 12.24 made Apple ADE a primary macOS activation, creates a local admin account, and adds PKG app delivery and FileVault escrow.
Work profile, fully managed and COPE activations, Samsung Knox with E-FOTA One, and zero-touch for Android Management since 12.23.
Windows 10 and 11 enrol during out-of-box setup with an Entra ID username and password; Entra ID join and a premium licence are needed.
Work data is encrypted at rest at the app level and cryptographically split from personal data, so a compromised phone does not expose it.
BlackBerry Work, Access, Connect, Notes, Tasks, BRIDGE and Edit carry mail, browsing and documents inside the Dynamics container.
BlackBerry 2FA, Enterprise Identity, Protect Mobile threat defence and Analytics are licensed on top of a UEM deployment, not sold alone.
A software update enforcement profile sets a target OS version, build and local date and time, then updates devices that fall behind.
A custom DDM payload profile, new in 12.24, controls Declarative Device Management features on iOS and macOS devices directly.
Government PKI, CAC and PIV cards, and derived credentials stored on the device, let users authenticate with certificates on the phone itself.

Most UEM tools trust the device: if the phone is compromised, so is the mail on it. BlackBerry encrypts work data at rest inside each Dynamics app, cryptographically apart from personal data. BlackBerry calls that unlike other UEM products, which is its own claim, but it is why agencies buy it.
UEM installs on your own servers, inside an air-gapped network or in a sovereign-managed cloud, or runs hosted as UEM Cloud. Both share one feature table, and the August 2026 cloud release matches on-prem 12.24, so self-hosting does not leave you on an older product.
UEM’s Common Criteria certificate comes from Germany’s BSI, and BlackBerry calls it the first BSI-certified MDM. Beside it sit NATO Restricted, DISA STIG, FIPS 140 and an NSA CSfC designation; the service holds ISO 27001, 27017 and 27018 and SOC Type II.
Mac management is weeks old: ADE enrolment, FileVault escrow and PKG apps came in 12.24. Apple User Enrollment is unsupported from iOS 18. There is no price, trial or free tier, no documented India cloud region, and no Gartner placement announced for 2026.
List who needs a phone, a tablet or a PC managed, whose data is classified, and whether any site must stay air-gapped.
Decide on-prem, air-gapped or UEM Cloud, and whether licences go per user or per device; ask for both in the quote.
Activate twenty devices across iOS and Android, roll out BlackBerry Work, and check mail and SharePoint access via BEMS.
Enrol Windows through Autopilot, test Mac ADE and FileVault escrow on 12.24, and set an OS update enforcement date.
Plan two upgrades a year to stay inside engineering support, add 2FA or Protect Mobile if needed, and train the help desk.

“Our audit team asked where mail sits on a lost phone. The answer was inside an encrypted Dynamics container, and that closed it.”
“We run UEM on our own servers with no internet path at all. Few products we shortlisted would even install that way.”
“Staff keep their own Android phones; the work profile and BlackBerry Work keep client files off the personal side.”
“Derived credentials put our PKI certificates on the phone itself, so sign-in no longer depends on a card reader at a desk.”
“Mac ADE enrolment only came with 12.24, so we waited for it and still manage our Macs more lightly than our phones.”
“Strong security, but the quote took weeks and we had to plan two upgrades a year to stay inside engineering support.”
Analyst firms bury this view behind paywalls, and G2 retired its Grid. So here’s TechBag’s synthesis of the UEM and MDM market — tap any vendor to see why it sits where it does.
Execution strength vs product vision — the classic market map, minus the paywall.
Quoted per user or per device; no public price.
The grid nobody publishes — how much of the stack you can host yourself, India included, vs how deeply work data is protected on the device.
On-prem, air-gapped or cloud; app-level encrypted container.

Drag the sliders (managed devices; IT staff-hour cost). Estimates model the staff time spent enrolling devices, chasing OS updates and handling lost or personal phones that hold work data, at an assumed 1.5 hours per device a year, with 70% of it removed by zero-touch enrolment, update deadlines and the app-level container. Both figures are assumptions. Illustrative.
Loaded cost = salary + overheads per productive hour. Illustrative only — your TechBag quote models your actual environment and modules.
Not published: BlackBerry sells UEM on subscription, per user or per device, with custom agreements for large or multi-agency estates, and every route on its site ends in a demo request; there is no trial or free tier. The Dynamics apps come with UEM licensing, while BlackBerry 2FA, Enterprise Identity, Protect Mobile and Analytics are add-ons. TechBag compares the per-user and per-device options for your fleet and quotes in INR with GST.
Best when staff carry several devices

Must the server sit on-prem or in an air-gapped network, or is BlackBerry’s UEM Cloud acceptable to your auditors?
If you choose UEM Cloud, where will tenant data be stored? BlackBerry documents no India region, so get it in writing.
Is per user or per device cheaper for your mix of phones, tablets and PCs? Ask for both prices in the same quote.
Which of 2FA, Enterprise Identity, Protect Mobile and Analytics do you need, and are they itemised separately?
How many Macs do you run? ADE, FileVault escrow and PKG apps need 12.24 or the August 2026 cloud release.
Can staff-owned iPhones use the Dynamics container, given Apple User Enrollment is unsupported from iOS 18?
Which certificate does your regulator need — BSI Common Criteria, FIPS 140, NATO Restricted — and for which product?
Who applies the twice-yearly releases and security fixes on a self-hosted server, and inside what time window?
