Quick answer

Snowflake sells the AI Data Cloud: one platform for analytics, data engineering, AI agents and apps, billed in credits, led by CEO Sridhar Ramaswamy. Beside it sit Snowflake Postgres, Observe and two agents renamed in June 2026, CoCo and CoWork. Credits cost $2 to $6 by edition in AWS Mumbai and Azure Central India (Pune), the same as US East, and an XS warehouse uses one credit an hour. Read more ↓ Show less ↑
The portfolio

Five intel pages. Data platform, managed Postgres, observability and AI agents for data work.

Snowflake’s line, product by product — every card is a full intel page, from the AI Data Cloud and Snowflake Postgres to Observe and the two agents renamed in June 2026, CoCo and CoWork.

Cortex AI

Platform & engine

AI SQL functions, Cortex Analyst, Cortex Search, Cortex Agents and Cortex AI Gateway, which came with the Natoma purchase. They run inside your account on a separate AI-credit meter priced per million tokens, so TechBag covers them on the AI Data Cloud and CoWork pages rather than on a page of their own

Snowflake Openflow

Platform & engine

Data ingestion built on Apache NiFi, billed in platform credits; the bring-your-own-cloud deployment uses 0.0225 credits per vCPU-hour. A capability of the platform, not a separate licence, so it is explained on the AI Data Cloud page

Horizon Catalog and Open Catalog

Platform & engine

Horizon is the governance layer included with the platform. Open Catalog is Snowflake’s managed Apache Polaris catalogue, charged at 0.5 credits per million requests, a niche item TechBag mentions here only

Snowpark, Streamlit, Marketplace and Unistore

Platform & engine

Code in Snowflake, Streamlit apps, the data Marketplace, Native Apps, Notebooks, Snowflake ML and hybrid tables under the Unistore name. All are platform features billed inside the same credits, so none is paged on its own

The thesis

Why “one bill for data and AI” is the whole story

Most data estates pay one vendor for the warehouse, another for pipelines and a third for the AI layer. Snowflake sellsthe warehouse, ingestion, governance, AI agents and now Postgres on one credit meter, in Mumbai and Pune at US East prices, so the question shifts from integration to cost control. Credits are easy to start and hard to forecast, which is why warehouse sizes and the separate AI meter decide the bill.

01
The compute you pay for

Virtual warehouses

Sized XS to 6XL at 1 to 512 credits an hour, doubling per size, and billed per second after a 60-second minimum; Gen2 XS uses 1.35 on AWS.

02
Where the data sits

Storage layer

Charged per TB a month, $23 on demand in Mumbai and Pune and as low as $13.80 on capacity tiers; moving data to another cloud costs extra.

03
The AI meter

Cortex AI

Models and agents bill in AI credits per million tokens, $2.20 regional or $2.00 global per AI credit, separate from warehouse credits.

04
Governance, included

Horizon Catalog

The governance layer that ships with the platform; CoCo works with your roles and policies, and CoWork answers over governed data.

Start with the workload — analytics, transactions, telemetry or agents — then size the warehouses before you pick an edition.

Every term on these pages, in one place
Credit
Snowflake’s billing unit; the price per credit depends on edition and region.
Virtual warehouse
A compute cluster sized XS to 6XL that burns credits only while it runs.
AI credit
The separate meter for Cortex models and agents, priced per million tokens.
Edition
Standard, Enterprise, Business Critical or VPS; each raises the credit price.
Capacity
Credits bought up front on contract, in place of on-demand billing in arrears.
Gen2 warehouse
Newer compute that uses 1.35 credits an hour at XS on AWS, 1.25 on Azure.
Cortex AI
Snowflake’s in-account AI functions, search, analyst and agent services.
Horizon Catalog
The governance layer included with the platform at no extra licence.
Apache Iceberg
An open table format; Observe stores telemetry in it on a lakehouse.
OpenTelemetry
The open standard for logs, metrics and traces that Observe ingests natively.
Tri-Secret Secure
A security option in Business Critical that Standard and Enterprise lack.
VPS
Virtual Private Snowflake: Business Critical in a fully separate environment.
Track 02 · Buying guides

Buy it like you’ve done this before

The procurement playbook TechBag runs with IT buyers — steps, licensing cheat-sheet, and the pitfalls that cost quarters.

01

Pick the region first

Choose AWS Mumbai or Azure Central India (Pune) before anything else. Both charge US East prices, and there is no Google Cloud region in India.

02

Choose the edition

Standard at $2 a credit suits most first projects; Enterprise brings multi-cluster compute; Business Critical, aimed at regulated industries, brings Tri-Secret Secure and DR.

03

Size the warehouses

Turn credits into rupees per hour by naming sizes: XS is one credit an hour and each size doubles it. Set auto-suspend and resource monitors from day one.

04

Budget the AI meter apart

Cortex, CoCo and CoWork bill tokens in AI credits, not warehouse credits. Model choice changes that bill sharply, so cap it separately.

05

Finish the MFA move

Password-only sign-in ends in October 2026. Move every service user and pipeline to key-pair, OAuth or programmatic tokens before it breaks.

06

Get it priced in rupees

Snowflake lists prices in USD only. TechBag sizes credits, storage and the AI meter, compares on-demand with Capacity, and quotes the total in INR with GST.

The licensing cheat-sheet

CoCoTokens in AI credits inside an account · standalone CLI subscription with no published priceToken-meteredData engineering code
CoWorkTokens in AI credits for the underlying Cortex calls · needs a Snowflake accountToken-meteredQuestions from business users

Snowflake publishes its prices: credits cost $2, $3, $4 or $6 by edition in Mumbai and Pune, the same as US East, and an XS warehouse uses one credit an hour. Cortex AI is a separate AI-credit meter and Observe has its own per-GiB list. TechBag turns it into an INR quote with GST.

Five pitfalls that cost buyers quarters

1

Reading a credit as an hourly price

$2 is per credit, not per hour. An XS warehouse burns one credit an hour and an XL sixteen, so the size you leave running sets the bill.

2

Forgetting the AI meter

Cortex models and agents are billed in AI credits per million tokens, apart from warehouse credits. A capacity contract for compute does not cap them.

3

Pricing Postgres like analytic storage

Snowflake Postgres storage costs about $118 per TB a month in Mumbai, five times the $23 analytic rate, and high availability doubles it again.

4

Leaving service users on passwords

MFA enforcement for every user completes in October 2026. Pipelines that sign in with a password alone will fail until they move to key-pair or OAuth.

5

Counting press lists as customers

Only Urban Company, Piramal Finance and Shiprocket appear on Snowflake’s own pages; other Indian names in the press are reports, not references.
