Which tier first carries workflow automation at Freshsales, HubSpot, Pipedrive, Salesforce and Zoho, and what Zoho’s rupee tiers buy, as of September 2026.
Workflow automation is no longer the reason to buy the expensive CRM seat. Four of the five sales CRMs Indian buyers shortlist most include workflows in their entry paid tier; what the higher tiers sell is the limit.1 2 3 4 5 HubSpot is the plainest case: Sales Hub Starter allows “up to 50 workflows with restricted triggers and actions”, and Professional, at US$90 a seat a month on an annual commitment against US$20 for Starter, allows “up to 300 fully customizable workflows”.2 That is 4.5 times the seat price to lift the cap.
Freshsales Growth, at US$9 a user a month billed annually, lists “basic workflows”; sales sequences arrive at Pro, US$39.1 Salesforce’s Starter Suite, US$25, lists “built-in sales flows and lead routing”.4 Zoho CRM allows ten workflow rules a module, five of them active, even on its free edition for three users.5 The exception is Pipedrive: its Lite plan, US$14, lists no automation, and “automate repetitive tasks and complex workflows” starts at Growth, US$39.3
Zoho is the one vendor on the list that publishes both a rupee price and the automation limits behind it: Standard ₹800 a user a month, Professional ₹1,400, Enterprise ₹2,400 and Ultimate ₹2,600, billed annually, GST extra.6 Its comparison table caps the active workflow rules in each module, and the caps rise faster than the price.5
Zoho's ₹800 seat runs 15 active workflow rules a module; the ₹2,600 seat runs 100

The count of rules is not the whole story. Professional is where Zoho adds blueprints (three, guided sales processes) and assignment thresholds; approval processes and custom functions inside workflows wait for Enterprise. Workflow emails are capped too: 100 per user licence or 5,000 a day on Standard, whichever is lower, and 200 or 10,000 on Professional.5 A team that runs drip campaigns from the CRM will reach the email cap before the rule cap.
The premium has moved to AI. HubSpot’s Agent Builder offers “simple automation” at Starter and “advanced automation and event-based triggers” at Professional; Freshworks sells its Freddy AI Agent as an add-on at US$49 for 100 sessions.2 1 Our piece on CRM agents prices that layer. In India, Zoho Professional for ten users is ₹1,68,000 a year, or ₹1,98,240 with 18% GST; the four US-dollar vendors bill in dollars and are quoted in INR through a reseller with 18% GST. Every automated email to a prospect is processing of personal data: the DPDP Rules were notified on 13 November 2025, and the consent and notice duties apply from 13 May 2027.7 Build the consent field into the workflow now; retrofitting it across a hundred live rules is the expensive way.
