Where five cloud CRMs sold in India host a new Indian account, read from each vendor's own hosting page, with the AI-processing caveat. As of September 2026.
Three of the five cloud CRMs Indian sales teams most often shortlist will keep an Indian account’s records in an Indian data region: Salesforce, Zoho and Freshworks. HubSpot will not, and Pipedrive files new Indian sign-ups in its UK data centre.12 In 2023 this post argued that CRM belonged in the cloud. That argument is over; every product here is sold as a subscription service. The question worth asking in September 2026 is which cloud, and in which country.
We read each vendor’s own hosting page rather than its sales deck. The split is clean, and it does not follow price: the cheapest CRM on the list, Zoho at ₹800 a user a month on annual billing,3 is one of the three with an Indian region, and the most expensive, Salesforce, is another.

Two caveats sit in the small print. First, the region is a sign-up decision. Freshworks lets an account pick its region when it is created and asks customers with regulatory needs to write to support to move it;5 Pipedrive says company accounts “can be hosted in different data centers” and that support confirms where.2 A trial opened by a sales manager on a laptop in 2024 may already sit in the wrong country.
Second, the AI layer travels. Freshworks documents that, for accounts in its India, Middle East and Australia regions, two Freshdesk suggestion features send data to the United States for processing; they can be switched off.7 Every CRM now ships an assistant, and the hosting page rarely covers it.
The data-protection law does not, by itself, force a CRM into India; a sector regulator’s outsourcing rules may, so check yours. The DPDP Act, 2023 lets the Central Government restrict transfers to countries it notifies (section 16), and the DPDP Rules, notified on 13 November 2025, bring the security-safeguard and breach-notice duties into force on 13 May 2027.89 CERT-In’s Directions of 28 April 2022 already ask organisations to keep 180 days of ICT system logs within Indian jurisdiction, which is easier to evidence when the system sits here.10 On price, Zoho bills in rupees; HubSpot and Pipedrive bill in dollars, and an Indian business buying an imported online service accounts for 18% GST under reverse charge.11 TechBag quotes each in INR with GST.
