Power BI F64 beats ₹1,165 Pro seats only past 458 report readers

The annual cost of Power BI read access at Microsoft's India list prices: Pro seats against one F64 Fabric capacity, from 100 to 1,000 readers, September 2026.

At Microsoft’s India list prices, putting Power BI reports in front of 458 readers costs the same whether you buy each of them a Pro seat or buy one F64 capacity on a one-year reservation: about ₹64 lakh a year before GST. Below that number, seats are cheaper. Above it, the capacity is, because from F64 upward people who only read reports need no paid licence at all.1 2

The 2023 version of this piece argued that analytics improves decisions, and quoted a McKinsey study and a Harvard Business Review figure that we could not trace to the original research; neither appears here. The claim itself is uncontroversial. What decides whether it holds in a given company is plainer: a number changes a decision only if the person deciding can open the report, and in the most widely bought BI tool that is a licensing question.

01The licence decides who sees the number

Power BI Pro costs ₹1,165 a user a month, paid yearly, and Premium Per User ₹1,995, with GST extra.1 In US dollars Pro went from US$10 to US$14 on 1 April 2025, Microsoft’s first Power BI price rise in about ten years.3 A free account cannot share reports; every author and every reader of a shared report needs Pro, unless the workspace sits on a Fabric capacity of F64 or larger, where readers need nothing.1 Authors need Pro under both models, so the comparison that matters is readers only.

02Buying it in India

Microsoft prints a rupee price for Power BI, so ₹1,165 becomes ₹1,374.70 a user a month with 18% GST.1 Fabric capacity is billed through Azure; the Central India region carries its own price meters, so the capacity can be bought in an Indian region; confirm with Microsoft which data that keeps in India for your tenant.2 A sales or HR dashboard carries personal data under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. The DPDP Rules were notified on 13 November 2025 and the security-safeguard and breach duties apply from 13 May 2027, so who can open which report is now a compliance record as well as a budget line.4
