TechBag's count of 18 ITSM products by asset depth and India hosting, the published asset-tier prices and meters, and the RBI end-of-support rule, as of September 2026.
The 2022 version of this piece called IT asset management “the foundation for efficient IT management” and listed five tools, two of which no longer exist as named. Four years on, the question an Indian IT head asks is more specific: which service desk already does this, what does the asset tier add to the per-technician bill, and who am I paying for once assets are in scope, the technician, the device or the user? The answers, as of September 2026, come from counting rather than from a vendor’s white paper.
TechBag’s ITSM and service desk guide records 18 products across 14 vendors, verified against vendor documentation on 24 August 2026, and flags each one’s asset management as full, basic or none.1 Nine are full: Ivanti Neurons for ITSM, BMC Helix ITSM, ServiceNow ITSM, ITOM and ITAM, Freshservice, ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus, Jira Service Management and SolarWinds Web Help Desk. Six are basic, the MSP suites and the newer work-management desks: Atera, SuperOps, monday service, ConnectWise PSA, SolarWinds Service Desk and Autotask PSA. Three carry nothing: Zoho Desk, Freshdesk and Hiver.

The original’s distinction between ITAM, ITSM and ITOM survives, but the market has mostly collapsed it into a tier. The question is no longer whether to buy an asset tool beside the service desk; it is which edition of the service desk switches the asset module on, and what that edition costs.
Of the nine full-ITAM products, four print a price and five are quote-only.1 ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus on-premises lists Standard at $13 a technician a month for the service desk alone, Professional at $27 with asset management, and Enterprise at $67 with change and projects added; the free edition covers five technicians.2 Freshservice lists Starter at $19 an agent a month, Growth at $49 with asset management and the service catalogue, and Pro at $99 with problem, change and release.1 SolarWinds Web Help Desk, the self-hosted ticketing tool, bundles asset discovery and licence management into a single annual price of $533 a technician a year for one to five technicians, about $44 a month, falling to $320 a year above 500.1 Jira Service Management publishes per-agent prices too, but the guide records no figure for the tier that carries its asset module, so it is left off the chart.

The step is the number to notice. ManageEngine’s asset edition is $14 a technician a month above its plain service desk; Freshservice’s is $30. For a ten-technician team that is $1,680 or $3,600 a year, before GST, for a register of every device, licence and contract the team supports. Against the 2022 original’s claim that ITAM “saves money”, that is the whole of the bet: the module pays for itself if it finds one unused licence pool or one warranty claim a year.1 2
Every product on the guide prices the service desk per technician, with requesters free; the guide’s own warning is that buyers who price it per employee arrive at a number roughly twenty times too high.1 Assets break that rule. ManageEngine’s Professional and Enterprise editions are priced by the number of IT assets in bands of 250, 500, 1,000, 2,000 and 3,000, and its starting bundle is $495 a year for two technicians and 250 assets on-premises.2 JumpCloud Asset Management, launched 25 September 2025, is $3 a user a month on annual billing, bought à la carte or inside Platform Prime, so a 500-person company pays for 500 users however many laptops it owns.3 10 ServiceNow ITAM is a separate licence from ServiceNow ITSM, and the guide notes that BMC Helix Discovery, the product that keeps BMC’s bundled CMDB accurate, is a separate SKU from $50,000.1 Ivanti goes the other way and lists asset management as a line item in all three of its packages, though it publishes no entitlement matrix.4
The service desk is priced per technician; the asset tier is priced per asset, per user or as a separate licence

The practical consequence is that an asset quote needs two counts you may not have: how many assets you will register, including monitors, phones and spare stock, and how many people will own one. A team that gives the vendor its technician count alone will be quoted the service desk and surprised by the asset invoice.
The guide records an India position for each product. Among the nine with full ITAM, two are India-built, ManageEngine and Freshservice, both from Chennai-founded companies; three document a data region a tenant can be placed in, BMC Helix, Jira Service Management and the self-hosted SolarWinds Web Help Desk; and four have no India region documented on the guide, Ivanti and the three ServiceNow products.1 The Ivanti case is the one to read closely: India appears in its sub-processor list, but on the rows for its security products and an engineering contractor, while every Neurons for ITSM row lists the United States, Australia and Germany.4 For ServiceNow the guide’s note is narrower: an India data region is not documented on the product pages, so confirm residency in the order form before assuming it.1
