A laptop needs a fix and the user is in a meeting. Your remote tool wants their screen anyway — JumpCloud Remote Access lets IT take live, unattended or background control of Windows, Mac and Linux desktops from a browser, over an encrypted peer-to-peer link, using the agent your JumpCloud devices already run — $3 per user a month, or included in the $9 Device Management package.

Most product pages skip this. We start here — so you buy a capability, not a buzzword.
JumpCloud Remote Access gives IT live, unattended and background sessions on Windows, Mac and Linux desktops.
What consolidation actually replaces, dimension by dimension.
| Dimension | A separate remote tool | JumpCloud Remote Access |
|---|---|---|
| Support tool | A separate agent and contract | Same agent and console as the MDM |
| Quick fixes | Take over the screen every time | Background commands and file moves |
| After hours | Wait for the user to be online | Silent Assist on unattended desktops |
| User consent | Shared passwords and screen links | Live Assist asks the user before control |
| Licensing | Per technician or channel | Per managed user, in the device package |
| What it is NOT | — | Mobile remote control or recorded sessions |
The cheapest test is the 30-day trial: run Live Assist, Silent Assist and Background Tools on one Windows, one Mac and one Linux desktop.
Vendors love diagrams; buyers need to know what they’re actually operating. Here’s the whole platform, demystified.
An admin opens the device in the JumpCloud console and starts a session from the browser; the same record carries the device’s user, policies and patch state.
Every target must run the JumpCloud Agent on Windows, macOS or Linux; Linux needs a desktop session (X11 or a display manager), so headless servers are out.
Screen, input and files move over WebRTC with unique session keys and end-to-end encryption, directly peer-to-peer between browser and device.
Each session is logged automatically in JumpCloud. JumpCloud documents no video recording, so the record is who connected, where and when, not a replay.
A session starts in the admin’s browser, travels peer-to-peer over WebRTC to the JumpCloud Agent on the desktop, and leaves a log, not a video.
JumpCloud Remote Access opens a support session from the same device record IT already manages — the support layer of the JumpCloud platform.
Live Assist, the default session type, asks the user to accept before the admin can see or control the screen.
A one-time access code opens a session on demand, for the user who needs help now rather than at a booked time.
Sessions run from the admin’s browser over WebRTC, with multi-monitor viewing and clipboard sync, and no viewer app.
Silent Assist reaches a device with no one at it, for after-hours fixes on laptops and desktops that run the agent.
Background Tools run commands and move files without sharing the screen, so the user keeps working; they are not on Linux.
Remote File Manager browses the device’s files and moves them in either direction, without a separate file-sharing tool.
Sessions are logged automatically in JumpCloud; video recording is not documented, so the log is the whole audit trail.
Each session gets unique keys, end-to-end encryption and a direct peer-to-peer path, according to JumpCloud’s documentation.
Sessions time out after 120 minutes by default, one session per device at a time, with unlimited devices in parallel.
Three videos from JumpCloud’s official channel, from 2023 and 2024, all made under the product’s earlier name, Remote Assist: a session demo, an explainer and a live show on Silent Assist.
A short 2023 demo of starting a session; it uses the earlier Remote Assist name, now Remote Access.
A three-minute 2024 explainer on remote assistance, made while the product was still called Remote Assist.
A 56-minute 2023 live session on Silent Assist, the unattended mode, shown under the old Remote Assist name.

Remote Access starts from the device in JumpCloud’s console, where its user, policies and patch status already sit, and it uses the same agent as JumpCloud’s MDM. There is no second support agent to deploy, and in the $9 Device Management package it costs nothing extra.
Background Tools let IT run commands and move files while the user carries on working, and Silent Assist reaches machines nobody is sitting at. When a user does need to watch, Live Assist asks for consent first, which suits teams handling customer or patient data on screen.
Most rivals here bill per technician or per concurrent channel. JumpCloud lists Remote Access at $3 per managed user a month on annual billing, and does not state a technician limit, so ask. It was free for unlimited devices at its 2022 launch; new accounts now pay. TechBag quotes in INR with GST.
No iPhone, iPad or Android targets. Headless Linux servers are not supported, and Background Tools skip Linux. No session video recording is documented, keyboards are English QWERTY only, and there is no technician approval workflow or on-prem edition. It is missing from Platform Essentials, and no analyst has placed JumpCloud.
Count the desktops by OS, the phones and tablets, and any headless Linux servers, then mark which ones JumpCloud can reach.
Check whether your package includes Remote Access (Platform Essentials does not) and whether auditors need session video.
Run Live Assist, a one-time code, Silent Assist and Background Tools on a pilot of Windows, Mac and Linux desktops.
Decide when IT may use Silent Assist, how consent is recorded and where session logs go, then train the helpdesk.
Retire the old remote tool on covered desktops, keep one for mobiles if needed, and sign the INR quote with GST.

“Remote Access came with the device package, so we dropped a per-technician tool. Our helpdesk starts sessions from the device record.”
“Background Tools let us restart services and pull logs while the user keeps working. Nobody has to stop for a screen share.”
“Silent Assist handles our after-hours fixes on branch desktops, and the consent prompt keeps daytime sessions above board.”
“Our auditors asked for session recordings and JumpCloud only logs sessions. We now note the ticket number in every session.”
“Field staff carry Android tablets that it cannot reach, so we kept a second tool for those. Desktops are covered well.”
“Sessions open from the browser without any viewer app, which matters when our engineers work from locked-down laptops.”
Analyst firms bury this view behind paywalls, and review-site grids score satisfaction, not fit for your estate. So here’s TechBag’s synthesis of the Remote access and support market — tap any vendor to see why it sits where it does.
Execution strength vs product vision — the classic market map, minus the paywall.
$3 per user list price; no analyst placement.
The grid nobody publishes — how tightly the remote tool is built into your device management (same agent, same console, same bill) vs how many kinds of device and use it reaches.
Same agent as the MDM; desktops only; sessions logged, not recorded.

Drag the sliders (desktops you support; IT-hour cost). Estimates model the IT time lost to desk visits, waiting for users to come online, interrupting them for screen shares and juggling a separate remote tool, at an assumed 0.3 hours per desktop a month, with 50% of it removed by unattended and background sessions from the device console. Both figures are assumptions. Illustrative.
Loaded cost = salary + overheads per productive hour. Illustrative only — your TechBag quote models your actual environment and modules.
Published list prices, in USD per user per month (read 12 October 2026): Remote Access is $3 billed annually or $4 billed monthly, à la carte. It is included in the Device Management package ($9 annually / $11 monthly), Device Identity Management ($13 / $15), Platform and Platform Prime — but not in Platform Essentials. JumpCloud prices per managed user, while most remote-support rivals price per technician or concurrent channel, and no technician limit is published. Remote Assist was free for unlimited devices at its October 2022 launch; new accounts now get a 30-day trial instead. TechBag quotes in INR with GST.

Do you support phones or tablets remotely? JumpCloud Remote Access cannot reach iOS or Android; budget another tool.
Do auditors or customers require session video? JumpCloud logs sessions but documents no recording.
Are any Linux targets headless servers? They need a display session; Background Tools do not run on Linux.
Is your package Platform Essentials? It excludes Remote Access; ask if the $3 add-on attaches or a package change is needed.
Billing is per managed user. Is there any cap on how many technicians can run sessions at the same time?
When may IT use Silent Assist without the user present? Write it down before turning unattended access on.
Do users type on non-English layouts? JumpCloud documents English (QWERTY) keyboards only for sessions.
Is this a new tenant? Mumbai is chosen at sign-up; logs and telemetry may still be processed outside India.
List the desktops, phones and servers your helpdesk supports, or let a TechBag advisor check them against what Remote Access can reach, confirm your package includes it, and quote in INR.
