Your technicians wait for users to be free. The fix could happen behind their session — ScreenConnect puts a technician on a user’s screen, or on a machine nobody is sitting at, in seconds — in ConnectWise’s cloud or on your own server, priced per concurrent technician or by agent band.

This page covers ScreenConnect — Remote Support, Remote Access, On-Premise and the Privileged Access add-on. The rest:
Most product pages skip this. We start here — so you buy a capability, not a buzzword.
A way for a technician to see and control a distant computer — with the user watching, or on an unattended machine through an installed agent.
What consolidation actually replaces, dimension by dimension.
| Dimension | Free tools and shared passwords | ScreenConnect |
|---|---|---|
| Reaching the machine | Free consumer tools on every laptop | One access agent per machine, one console |
| Fixing without interrupting | Ask the user to step away | Backstage tools run behind their session |
| Admin rights | One shared admin password | Single-use credentials via Privileged Access |
| Proof for auditors | Nothing but the ticket note | Audit logs on every plan; video on Premium |
| Where the server lives | Wherever the free tool’s maker chose | ConnectWise’s cloud or your own On-Premise box |
| What it is NOT | — | Not a patching tool — pair it with an RMM for that |
The cheapest test is the free trial: put agents on one team's machines, fix a real ticket through Backstage, and time it.
Vendors love diagrams; buyers need to know what they’re actually operating. Here’s the whole platform, demystified.
Every session is brokered by one ScreenConnect instance — hosted by ConnectWise in its cloud, or installed On-Premise on infrastructure you run, under your own domain and SSL certificate.
Technicians sign in from a web browser or join from a phone, then pick a waiting guest or an agent from the session list; each concurrent technician takes one licence.
A one-off guest client joins attended sessions; an installed access agent — Windows, macOS, Debian, Red Hat and more — keeps a machine reachable when nobody is there.
Backstage works in the background with PowerShell, Command Prompt, Registry Editor and file transfer, leaving the user’s screen alone; Toolbox holds the team’s shared tools.
One server brokers every session — ConnectWise’s cloud or your own box, with host, guest and Backstage around it.
ScreenConnect lets a technician reach and fix any computer, whether or not its user is there.
A user joins from a session code or emailed link and the technician is on screen; Standard and above add iOS and Android guests and VoIP audio.
Access agents keep machines reachable after hours. One includes 10; Standard and Premium set no cap; Remote Access licences sell agents in bands.
One allows a single session; Standard lets each technician hold up to 3 at once and Premium up to 10 — the number that usually decides the tier.
LDAP, SAML, OAuth and other SSO sources, two-factor sign-in and brute-force blocking are in all plans, not held back for a higher tier.
Admin logins use single-use credentials that expire at logout; users ask for elevation from the UAC prompt, and files are checked against VirusTotal.
Every plan logs sign-ins, password changes and session access; video auditing of sessions is a Premium feature, so price that tier if you need it.
Backstage runs PowerShell, Command Prompt, Registry Editor and Event Viewer in the background while the user carries on working undisturbed.
Admins load scripts and utilities into a shared Toolbox once; every technician then runs them on remote machines without installing them locally.
Links to ConnectWise PSA and Automate, comes inside ConnectWise RMM packages, and reaches Zendesk, Freshdesk and Acronis through integrations.

Few support tools are still sold for self-hosting. On-Premise runs on infrastructure you pick, with custom domains, private extensions and settings ConnectWise says can be configured for PCI, CJIS and HIPAA. For data kept in India, this is the route — the cloud names no India region.
Remote Support is $30 a month on One (one licence, annual only), $45 on Standard and $55 on Premium per concurrent technician billed annually — or $59 and $69 billed monthly. Remote Access is a monthly total per agent band: $33 for 25 agents, $656 for 1,000.
Backstage, Toolbox, a remote command line and Wake-on-LAN are there for fixing machines, not just viewing them. ScreenConnect also plugs into ConnectWise PSA and Automate and is bundled in ConnectWise RMM packages, so an MSP on those tools may already own it.
Its security record needs watching: a CVSS 10 bypass in February 2024 that on-prem owners had to patch themselves, and a May 2025 nation-state event affecting a very small number of customers. Video auditing is Premium-only, and On-Premise and Privileged Access have no public price.
Note peak concurrent technicians, the sessions each holds and machines left unattended — that picks One, Standard, Premium or Remote Access.
If client or regulator rules need data on your own servers, scope On-Premise now and name an owner for applying every release.
Start the free trial, put agents on one team’s machines, connect SSO, and time real tickets against the tool you use today.
Enforce MFA, restrict technicians by IP or device, set session-level roles, and add Privileged Access if admins share passwords.
Link ScreenConnect to your PSA or helpdesk, move the remaining machines onto agents, then uninstall the old remote tools.

“Two clients insisted sessions never touch a vendor cloud. On-Premise on our own servers settled it without buying a second tool.”
“Backstage is the feature my team would fight to keep. We clear a stuck print spooler while the user carries on typing.”
“After February 2024 we patched our on-prem server the same day and now read every ConnectWise bulletin. Self-hosting makes that our job.”
“We assumed Standard would give auditors session video. Video auditing turned out to be Premium, so four seats moved up a tier.”
“Ten sessions per technician on Premium means one engineer can watch an overnight rollout across all our branch PCs.”
“The dollar price list made budgeting easy, but finance wanted rupee invoices with GST, so we bought through a reseller.”
Analyst firms bury this view behind paywalls, and G2 retired its Grid. So here’s TechBag’s synthesis of the remote support market — tap any vendor to see why it sits where it does.
Execution strength vs product vision — the classic market map, minus the paywall.
Cloud or On-Premise; One from $30/month, annual.
The grid nobody publishes — where the server and your session data can live, India included, vs how much a technician can do on the machine.
On-Premise any size; Backstage, Toolbox, PAM add-on.

ScreenConnect is one of 22 remote support & access products TechBag carries. The Remote Support & Access guide narrows them to a shortlist and shows the reasoning. →
Drag the sliders (endpoints you support; technician-hour cost). Estimates model technician time lost waiting for users to be free, switching between remote tools and retyping session notes at an assumed 1.5 hours per endpoint a year, with 70% of it recovered through unattended agents, background fixes and a PSA link. Both figures are assumptions. Illustrative.
Loaded cost = salary + overheads per productive hour. Illustrative only — your TechBag quote models your actual environment and modules.
Published, in USD: Remote Support is $30 a month on One (one licence, annual only), $45 on Standard and $55 on Premium per concurrent technician billed annually, or $59 and $69 billed monthly. Remote Access is a monthly total per agent band — $33 for 25 agents up to $656 for 1,000, billed annually. Enterprise, On-Premise and Privileged Access are priced by sales. How many sessions does each technician run at once? One allows 1, Standard 3 and Premium 10 — that decides the plan.
Do auditors need video of sessions? Video auditing is a Premium feature, so budget that tier for every technician it covers.
Must session data stay on your own servers? Then price On-Premise through sales and decide who applies every patch.
Is an India storage region required? ConnectWise documents none for the cloud; put any location commitment in the contract.
Who reads ConnectWise’s Trust Center bulletins? Cloud instances are patched by ConnectWise; on-prem servers are patched by you.
Do technicians share admin passwords? Privileged Access, an add-on, swaps them for single-use credentials that expire at logout.
Do you only need unattended access? A Remote Access licence starts at $33 a month for 25 agents instead of per-technician seats.
Can finance pay a USD card or annual invoice, or do you need INR billing with GST through a reseller?
