Your PCs, servers and phones all need software, patches and policy. Two tools and a USB stick don’t scale — Matrix42 Unified Endpoint Management installs Windows, packages and patches PCs through Empirum and enrols phones, tablets and Macs through Silverback, with Intune devices in the same console, in Matrix42’s cloud, a private cloud or on your own servers.

This page covers Matrix42 Unified Endpoint Management — one product, with Empirum and Silverback as its client-management and MDM engines. The rest:
Most product pages skip this. We start here — so you buy a capability, not a buzzword.
One tool that builds, patches and controls PCs, servers, phones and tablets, instead of a separate tool per device type.
What consolidation actually replaces, dimension by dimension.
| Dimension | A USB stick per PC, a separate MDM | Matrix42 Unified Endpoint Management |
|---|---|---|
| Building a new PC | A technician with a USB stick | PXE boot from a Depot Server and an OS rollout |
| Installing an app | Remote session, one machine at a time | Rollout plan in waves, with a fallback |
| Phones and Macs | A separate MDM with its own console | Silverback beside Empirum in one view |
| Intune devices | A second portal to check | Listed and assigned from the same console |
| A user asks for software | Ticket, email approval, manual install | Portal request, approval, automatic install |
| What it is NOT | — | Apple DDM, a published price, or an India region |
The cheapest test is the 30-day trial: PXE-build two PCs, push one app in waves, and enrol an Android phone and an iPhone.
Vendors love diagrams; buyers need to know what they’re actually operating. Here’s the whole platform, demystified.
An agent-based engine for Windows OS installation, software packaging and distribution, inventory and patching, served from Depot Servers; a SaaS edition covers inventory, software and patch.
The MDM engine for Android Enterprise, iOS, iPadOS, tvOS, macOS and Windows 10/11, on quarterly releases; on-prem it runs on Windows Server behind a reverse proxy.
A web console on the Matrix42 ESM platform that brings Empirum, Silverback and Intune devices together; a service bus lets Empirum stay local while Silverback runs in the cloud.
Matrix42 Cloud uses an in-country provider in Matrix42’s European markets; Private Cloud puts it in a data centre you contract; on-prem you run every server yourself.
Two engines, one console — Empirum on Depot Servers for PCs, Silverback for mobiles, in Matrix42’s cloud or on your own servers.
Matrix42 UEM builds and patches PCs and enrols mobiles from one console, on servers you can run yourself.
Depot Servers boot machines over the network and roll out Windows workstation and server builds, which eases Windows 11 moves.
Packages deploy to groups in stages, with an “air back” fallback if a wave goes wrong; users can delay updates that are not urgent.
An add-on library of over 2,100 pre-packaged business applications, sold at a fixed price, so nobody repackages a common app.
Macs and iPhones arrive through Apple’s DEP, apps through VPP, and personal iPhones stay split by Apple User Enrollment.
Work profiles on personal phones, single- and multi-app kiosk mode, zero-touch, Knox and StageNow staging, and AOSP devices.
Autopilot profiles built in Intune or in Matrix42 join PCs to Entra ID, then the UEM agent installs and policies apply.
Intune, Empirum, Silverback and co-managed devices share one console, with Intune apps imported, assigned and rolled out centrally.
The Patch Management add-on finds missing updates from many vendors; Patch Insights and audit reports help decide what goes first.
Inventory covers hardware, software and virtual machines, and feeds Matrix42’s service and software asset management directly.

Empirum carries the PC jobs that pure MDM tools skip: Windows OS installs over PXE, software packaging and wave-based rollouts. Silverback enrols Android, iPhones, iPads and Macs. Both, plus devices already in Intune, appear in one Matrix42 console.
The UEM sits on the same ESM platform as Matrix42 Service Management, so a software request can be approved and then installed by Empirum without a hand-off. Low-code SolutionBuilder and Workflow Studio adapt the forms and automations.
Matrix42 offers three hosting models: its own cloud, a Private Cloud in a facility you contract, or on-prem. A hybrid split works too, with Empirum local and Silverback hosted. For an Indian buyer that last option matters, because Matrix42 runs no cloud region in India.
Silverback has no Apple Declarative Device Management, and Matrix42 claims no Android Enterprise Recommended listing. Empirum dropped Linux OS installation, disk imaging and Intel AMT in version 25. Prices are quote-only and the last Gartner UEM placement dates from 2022.
Split devices into Empirum territory (Windows PCs, servers) and Silverback territory (phones, tablets, Macs), plus Intune.
Pick Matrix42 Cloud, a Private Cloud in an Indian data centre, or on-prem; for India-only data, Matrix42 Cloud is ruled out.
Stand up a Depot Server, PXE-build a few PCs, push two apps in waves, and enrol a handful of Android and Apple devices.
Turn on Patch Management if bought, pull common apps from the Package Cloud, and link software requests to approvals.
Book test windows for the April and October majors, confirm Empirum is on 25.5 or 26.2, and set the upgrade owner.

“We re-imaged two hundred lab PCs over PXE on a Saturday and the software waves finished before Monday’s first class.”
“A user requests Visio in the portal, the manager approves, and Empirum installs it. Nobody on the desk touches it now.”
“Seeing Intune laptops next to our Empirum servers in one console ended the weekly spreadsheet reconciliation.”
“The Package Cloud saved us from packaging Java and browsers ourselves every month. That alone paid for the add-on.”
“Silverback handles our Android scanners in kiosk mode well, but Mac admins miss the declarative features other tools have.”
“Two mandatory upgrades a year is real work on-prem. Book the test window early, or you fall off support.”

Execution strength vs product vision — the classic market map, minus the paywall.
Quote-only; 30-day trial; Patch and Package Cloud extra.
The grid nobody publishes — where the product can run and keep its data, India included, vs how much of a PC’s life it handles, from OS install to patch.
Cloud, private cloud, on-prem or hybrid; PXE installs, packages, waves.

Drag the sliders (managed devices; IT staff-hour cost). Estimates model the staff time spent building PCs, installing and updating software and enrolling mobiles by hand at an assumed 1.5 hours per device a year, with 70% of it removed by PXE installs, staged rollouts and central enrolment. Both figures are assumptions. Illustrative.
Loaded cost = salary + overheads per productive hour. Illustrative only — your TechBag quote models your actual environment and modules.
Not published: Matrix42 sells Unified Endpoint Management as one point product on quote, or inside the Secure UEM bundle with Endpoint Data Protection, and its pricing FAQ offers a 30-day free trial of each product. How many Windows PCs and servers, Macs, iPhones, Android phones and rugged devices? Each lands on a different engine.
Must device data stay in India? Then plan a Private Cloud in an Indian data centre or on-prem, since Matrix42 Cloud is Europe-hosted.
Do your Mac admins rely on Declarative Device Management? Silverback has none and still uses ScheduleOSUpdate commands.
Do you still need disk imaging or Linux OS installs? Empirum dropped both in version 25, along with Intel AMT.
Does the quote include Patch Management, the Package Cloud and Premium Services, or only the core UEM licence?
Are some devices already in Intune? Check how Matrix42’s Intune management and co-management fit your Autopilot setup.
Who owns the two mandatory majors a year on-prem? Missing one drops you off the 12-month support window.
Is every Empirum server on 25.5 or 26.2 or later? Earlier builds carry CVE-2026-57919, rated CVSS 7.8.
Bring your device counts by type and your data-location rules, or let a TechBag advisor scope a trial that tests PXE installs, software waves and mobile enrolment on servers in India.
