Your ECC system runs the business, custom code and all. Moving it shouldn’t mean starting from scratch — SAP Cloud ERP Private is the customisable S/4HANA that SAP operates for you, from infrastructure to application, on a hyperscaler, in your own data centre or in a sovereign cloud, bought through RISE with SAP.

This page covers SAP Cloud ERP Private — the private edition of S/4HANA, bought through RISE with SAP. The rest:
Most product pages skip this. We start here — so you buy a capability, not a buzzword.
A customisable S/4HANA that SAP operates for you, instead of a shared, standardised SaaS system.
What consolidation actually replaces, dimension by dimension.
| Dimension | Self-run ECC on your own servers | SAP Cloud ERP Private |
|---|---|---|
| Who runs the servers | Your basis team and a hardware refresh cycle | SAP, from infrastructure to application |
| Maintenance clock | ECC mainstream ends in 2027 (as reported) | The current S/4HANA code line |
| Custom code | Modifications made inside the core | Cloud-compliant extensions beside it |
| Where it runs | Your own data centre only | Hyperscaler, private data centre or sovereign cloud |
| Security fixes | Notes applied whenever someone has time | Notes still yours to apply, on a set calendar |
| What it is NOT | — | A price list, auto-patched SaaS, or the public edition |
The cheapest first step is a custom-code inventory: it shows how much of your ECC has to become extensions before any quote makes sense.
Vendors love diagrams; buyers need to know what they’re actually operating. Here’s the whole platform, demystified.
The customisable S/4HANA your finance, supply chain and payroll teams work in; TCS, for one, runs global payroll on it across more than 20 high-volume interfaces.
SAP offers three deployment homes: hyperscaler infrastructure, a facility you own, or sovereign infrastructure. That choice decides where data is stored and who audits the site.
SAP manages the ERP from infrastructure to application under the RISE contract; your own team still owns configuration, testing and applying the SAP Security Notes that apply to you.
SAP asks for cloud-compliant extensions: custom logic built beside the core on SAP BTP — today a building block of SAP’s AI platform — so the standard core can take updates.
A customisable S/4HANA core run by SAP — hosted on a hyperscaler, in your data centre or in a sovereign cloud.
SAP Cloud ERP Private keeps a customisable S/4HANA, lets you pick where it lives, and hands the running of it to SAP.
The first of the three homes SAP lists: your Cloud ERP Private system on a hyperscaler, with SAP operating the stack on top.
SAP also lists a private data centre as a home, the route for firms that will not move their ERP data into a shared public cloud.
SAP Sovereign Cloud India (Sept 2025) runs On-Site in customer data centres or as a hyperscaler option with AWS, aligned to NISPG.
SAP’s clean-core rule moves custom logic into cloud-compliant extensions, so the standard S/4HANA core can take each update cleanly.
Side-by-side apps and integrations run on SAP BTP, whose capabilities now sit inside SAP’s Business AI Platform.
Joule and SAP Business AI features come licensed into the product rather than as a separate application; check the AI scope in your quote.
SAP manages Cloud ERP Private from infrastructure to application, so your basis team stops tending the servers and databases beneath it.
SAP fixes arrive as Security Notes on patch days; Private customers apply them, as with February 2026’s note 3697099 (CVSS 9.9).
TCS moved its global payroll onto Cloud ERP Private in 2026 and reports 30–40% faster payroll processing on the new platform.

Cloud ERP Private keeps a customisable S/4HANA, but SAP manages it from infrastructure to application. It is the usual landing for ECC estates: ECC 6.0 mainstream maintenance ends on 31 December 2027, as The Register reported in February 2025.
SAP will host it with a hyperscaler, inside your own facility, or under its sovereign offer. India’s sovereign route arrived in September 2025: On-Site in customer data centres or a hyperscaler option with AWS, built to India’s NISPG.
TCS moved global payroll onto Cloud ERP Private in 2026 and reports 30–40% faster processing across more than 20 high-volume interfaces. Trent, Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail and NTPC went live through RISE with SAP, according to SAP’s February 2025 Asia-Pacific customer round-up.
SAP prints no price, so every RISE deal is a negotiation. Security Notes stay yours to apply: CVE-2025-42957, a 9.9 code-injection flaw in all S/4HANA releases including Private Cloud, was exploited in 2025, per Help Net Security. A deep custom-code habit also undercuts the clean core SAP asks for.
List custom objects, interfaces and modifications, and decide which become extensions, which go and which stay standard.
Choose a hyperscaler, your own data centre or SAP Sovereign Cloud India, and get the storage location stated in the contract.
Get every service, system size and AI entitlement itemised; TechBag converts the quote to INR with GST line by line.
Run the conversion with an SAP partner, rebuild custom logic on BTP, and rehearse cut-over with real month-end volumes.
Set a monthly routine to review SAP Security Notes after each patch day and apply the ones that touch your landscape.

“We kept our pricing-condition logic but moved it out as extensions. The first upgrade after go-live took a weekend, not a quarter.”
“Our basis team stopped chasing hardware refreshes. They now spend that time reviewing which Security Notes touch our landscape.”
“The sovereign option settled our board’s data question. Ask early which hosting choice your RISE quote actually assumes.”
“The custom-code clean-up before migration was the real project. Budget for it separately from the subscription itself.”
“Month-end close got faster once finance stopped exporting to spreadsheets, but training ran a full cycle longer than planned.”
“RISE bundled a lot, yet the first quote was hard to read line by line. Push for every service and system size spelt out.”
Analyst firms bury this view behind paywalls, and G2 retired its Grid. So here’s TechBag’s synthesis of the enterprise ERP market — tap any vendor to see why it sits where it does.
Execution strength vs product vision — the classic market map, minus the paywall.
Quoted under RISE with SAP; no public price.
The grid nobody publishes — how many places the ERP can run, your own data centre and sovereign options included, vs how deep you can shape its processes.
Hyperscaler, private DC or sovereign cloud; full S/4HANA customisation.

Drag the sliders (named ERP users; staff-hour cost). Estimates model the staff time lost to workarounds, manual reconciliation and upgrade freezes on an ageing self-run ERP, at 1.5 assumed hours for each user annually, 70% of which disappears after a move to SAP-run S/4HANA. Both figures are assumptions. Illustrative.
Loaded cost = salary + overheads per productive hour. Illustrative only — your TechBag quote models your actual environment and modules.
Quote only. SAP publishes no price for Cloud ERP Private; it is bought through RISE with SAP, SAP's offer for existing customers, and each contract is priced by SAP or a RISE partner according to system size, hosting choice, services and AI scope. SAP shows no rupee price. TechBag asks for every line to be itemised, then quotes the total in INR with GST.

Best for a broader rollout
Best where data must stay under Indian control
